Actually, Robert, I haven't ventured into the arena of "after SHADO" in my
fanfic, but I have discussed what kind of studio head Straker would be. And
that's driven. He simply couldn't run any enterprise as half-baked as Gerry
Anderson shows him doing in the series. Okay, it's good for a few chuckles,
perhaps, and maybe a barbed comment on the film industry as a whole. But it
never fit his character. So when I began writing fanfic for the show, that
was one area that had to change, just so that I'd have a believable
character to work with.

So, which element of your thoughts were you looking for in a story? The
"after SHADO" business or just the fact that he's single minded? I can
supply the latter for you, but for the former, the only story that comes to
mind is Deborah's "Harvest of the Planters", which touches briefly on what
happens to SHADO after the war ends. She handles it well, but keeps it
vague enough for several interpretations. You might enjoy her take on it.

Hope that helps!
Denise

I have read and enjoyed Planters, but it didn't really show a "Post" Straker, if you know what I mean. He didn't really seem that changed by the events.

Sorry, Robert. It wasn't clear what you were looking for. I thought you
just wanted to see a post-SHADO. I didn't realize that you were wanting to
see a post-Straker. That's not a scenario I've seen done successfully so
far. In my upcoming UFO: Next Gen series of stories, I'll be portraying
Straker post-SHADO. But he really won't be fully retired, because I don't
see why anyone would offer it to him. He's just too valuable a commodity to
let go. So even in those stories, he won't be completely "post." But since
he will also have a family that is involved with the daily running of SHADO,
he won't ever be out of the picture. I think he'd have to be dead to be
truly gone, and even then he'd probably haunt the place. *grin* Got any
suggestions on how a real Straker post-SHADO story would be played?
Yours,
Denise
