Straker's wig

Sorry if this has been asked before but does anyone know in which
episodes Ed Bishop doesn't wear the wig? I guess watching the clips
with Ed and Dolores brought this question to mind.

It's the early episodes -- IDENTIFIED, COMPUTER AFFAIR, etc.
It's hard to draw a strict line on this, as they later went
back and shot additional scenes for these episodes, so the
newer scenes have him wearing a wig while the original
scenes don't.

I believe you! I believe you!

I'd wondered because in some of the episodes he looks like his hair
is a bit wavy but then it goes straight and I couldn't figure out if
it was the wig or his own hair or if it was the wig but the makeup
department trying out new hair styles...etc, etc.

Just one of those things when you're watching an episode and the
thought crosses your mind and you go wait a moment that doesn't look
right.

I think it's a case of:

wavy hair = Ed's real hair, dyed.
straight hair = wig.

I think in IDENTIFIED, you'll see that his hair is wavy for most
of it, but in an occasional scene (like when he is lecturing
Lt. Ford about security) it is straight. That's because that
particular scene was filmed weeks (months?) later.

Okay I posted this before I read your last posted message. Does that
make me gullible? Most likely, just don't try and sell me swamp land :)

I'll have to go back and look again (any excuse to rewatch). It didn't
look very straight in Timelash either but maybe it was really breezy
that day when they were shooting outdoors.

I've always thought the wigs worn on the show were styled
differently, depending upon who did the hairdressing on a particular
episode, especially in the first production block. Also, Ed Bishop
said he had several of them and Gabrielle Drake said she had two,
which explained why her wig looked different between episodes.

It does grate a little that the hairstyles change between episodes
with Straker being the worst offender! Goodness knows what happened
to the wigs in 'Close Up' and 'Court Martial', perhaps they'd
accidentally gone through a hot wash! But this continuity error
resolved with the second block, where it looked pretty much the same
throughout, although they weren't always fitted very well, you can
see brown hair poking out from underneath in some scenes. Dolore's
wig definately had the most consistent appearance, being the same in
every episode. Perhaps she cared the most about how she looked on-
screen, continuity wise, I mean!

Thanks for this. I'd noticed this but couldn't figure how or why it
happened.

Actually it was the 'Court Martial' episode that started me wondering
about the wig. It's on the fourth disk in the series so I assumed it
was a wig but it was not the usual Straker look so I wondered if it
was his real hair.
