Stuart Meyers -- Alien or not?

Hi all,

Some of you might recall that Gito Santana, who played an Alien
in a few episodes of UFO, was rather upset upon seeing that
Cards, Inc. was selling a trading card with his photo on it
but autographed by someone else. Someone named Stuart Meyers,
who he'd never even heard of.

Well, I just got an update from Gito today. He found
Stuart Meyers, and went to his house to talk to him.
Stuart had no recollection of ever appearing in UFO,
and when Gito asked why he autographed the card, Stuart
said that he did it as a favor to the guy who runs
Cards Inc., who he happens to be friends with. So
Gito has concluded that this is fraud, and is taking
it to the legal department at Equity.

I don't know what to think about all this. After all,
I've got frame captures and photos from UFO that show
*someone* in the Alien costume who looks just like
Stuart Meyers. So my feeling is that he may have
been in the series, but forgot. This certainly is
possible -- after all, I've heard that Jane Merrow
has no recollection of appearing as a guest character
in the episode THE RESPONSIBILITY SEAT.

Well, that's the update for now... stay tuned...

I must have missed that mail, I hadn't heard that. I'm no lawyer
but I suspect Gito will struggle to pursue this successfully on
the grounds that it's 'fraud', unless Stuart Meyers was signing
the cards as 'Gito Santana' or something.

I can see how it might be difficult to prove a case of fraud, but if
Stuart Meyers is signing a card picturing Gito, it might seen as
deception? I can't say I blame him for wanting to take action, I wish
him luck.

No, he was signing them as Stuart Myers.

One odd thing is that is that this fellow seems to autograph
his last name with 2 different spellings. This page has
an autographed card from Dr. Who with a spelling of "Myers":

http://www.richardwho.com/collections/collection174.asp

And then the UFO card has his named spelled "Myres":

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6133473424

The whole thing has been rather strange from the start...
and I still maintain that these 3 photos give Stuart
a very good case for claiming that he was indeed in
UFO:

This maybe off topic, if so please forgive me. I have heard a similar story on the Aliens vs Alien 3 franchise. Michael Biehn was told at one point that Hicks would appear on Alien 3 as a guest star. When Alien 3 went into production they decided to just use his top half in a small piece where he is drowning, no lines just action. They did not need him just some stock footage that could be altered. Someone on the set of Alien 3 mentioned this to him. He got angry because they were using his likeness without paying him. They agreed not to use his likeness at all. That is why you just see a blur and his name Hicks. If Santana was the Alien in the costume in that pose he has a case. If he was sick and Myers posed as the Alien he doesn't have a case. JUst my limited knowledge. I may be wrong. Please dont flame me. Marc Martin <[hidden email]> wrote:

I don't know if he has a case, but Gito was the Alien in the costume
for the photo used by Cards, Inc.

Here is the same picture that was used for the Cards, Inc. Alien
card, where you can see that it is Gito's face:

This is a picture from the episode SURVIVAL, where Gito receives
credit at the end of the episode for playing the Alien.

Well - I think he would have a stronger case if he owned the copyright
for the photo, but I suspect that he doesn't. However, like you, my
knowledge in this area is limited.

I would assume that one could autograph anything one felt like
and sell it - I bet I could autograph copies of Beatles' albums and
sell them quite legally, as long as a) they weren't pirate copies,
and b) I signed them 'James Gibbon' and not (say) 'John Lennon'.

Whether anyone would actually want to buy one is a different
conversation, and besides the point :D

Anyway, hopefully we'll hear how Gito gets on with the legal folks
at Equity.

Gino has a case. Thank you for that great picture even though I could not copy it. LOL. I remember in Subsmash commentary Ed Bishop saying how great Santana was . He never said a word but looked great as the Alien. He did mention that there was someone else but could not remember who it was.

No UFO production records (my chief source of information is the
Bentley book and the DVD's) show a Stuart Meyers in the show at
all. Anywhere. I think Gito has a case here.

According to the Bentley book (it really is becoming my oracle
now!), Santana was used as one of the recurring aliens and the other
actor used was....the ubiquitous Shane Rimmer.

Yes, but in those pictures I posted yesterday, the people in
those Alien suits were NOT Gito, nor were they Shane. And
they resemble Stuart Myers (in fact, *both* of the people
in that LONG SLEEP photo resemble Stuart!)

Yes, Gito said that the Stuart Myers he visited *did* say
that he appeared in Dr. Who, but again, he seems to always
play "the guy under the mask".

I could have sworn that the asian guy who played "Lt Chinn" in
"Subsmash" was also used as an alien in one episode.... can't remember
which one though....

I believe Roy Dotrice doesn't remember being in Space:1999 even
though he was done for "This Is Your Life" on set.

In this he plays a "technician", so its possible we
could see his face, and compare it to the guys in the
Alien suits in UFO. But that's more effort than I
was to spend on this topic... :-)

However, if there is someone here who has these episodes
of Dr. Who on video and wants to see if they can locate
Stuart Myers and make a frame capture, I'd be interested
in comparing it with those UFO photos.

I just don't have any episodes of Dr. Who... except
for the ones with Wanda Ventham in them... ;-)

Yes, Anthony Chinn played the alien in "The Square Triangle".
