Of the nine episodes made after the break, I only like four. The other five just don't have the FEEL of the rest of the series. So I can see why some think that it's another series in itself. Unfortunately for this discussion, Sound of Silence is not one of the four that I liked. It was well-directed; you can trust David Lane for that. But it was more like a mystery show that happened to edge over into sci-fi than a sci-fi show with a bit of mystery thrown in. You almost didn't need SHADO at all until the end. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 5. It wasn't a bad show, just not a good UFO episode. The four later eps I enjoyed watching are Destruction, Reflections in the Water, Timelash, and Mindbender. I also enjoyed parts of Psychobombs, although the premise itself was not very believable. But for viewing and reviewing pleasure, those four are it for the later ones. Which do you prefer? Ah, our James is still here, I thought you were off partying by now!
It's not good for your economy, really, you know. I mean, I'll be ordering the French UFO tapes rather than the British (providing they do have the English sound track, obviously), think of the loss of revenue for the UK. (I'm not talking about just my tape) Isn't there some talk of a referendum in 2003, about the Euro? Still, Henderson ordered for us on Marsbase to use the Euro, so there! CU! WIshing you a happy, economically independent, New Year! Lieve >Still proudly maintaining our own currency and economic >independence here in the UK. > >James > > > > > > >Your use of Yahoo! Yes there will be a referendum, but too many people have fought and died to maintain our freedom for it to succeed. I can hardly believe that the people of France, Germany and ten other nations have decided that their countries are so insignificant that they do not deserve even to maintain their own currency. I suspect that when the people of these countries realise that they have been sold out, their leaders' names will stand forever in shame. Our own notional 'leader', Tony Blair, would dearly love to sell out his country, I admit, but his name has long been a byword for craven cowardice and betrayal. No surprise there. Are we off-topic? :) |
>James wrote > >Hi Lieve, nice to see you posting .. very quiet these days! The sound of silence :-) Just very busy, actually. Even considered signing off this list, but didn't, in the end. No time to read most stuff though. But then some of us have read it all before (most of it), time and time again. Fab-Ufo was the first Internet list I joined, back in 1996. We've seen quite a lot of people come and go, haven't we, Marc? Quite a few of the old guard are still on board, others have disappeared and one wonders whether one day they'll come back to see how we are (they should be able to figure out that Fab-Ufo is now Shado, right, and with Yahoo, everything is Yahoo these days!) As to the Euro-thing, there is the 'united we stand, devided we fall', apart from which, it's a nuisance that every time one drives for about an hour, one has to use another currency. (Yes, my present car does 200 kms/hour, I could easily keep up with Straker, not sure he could keep up with me though :-) CU! Hi Denise, Of the later set, I particularly like The Man Who Came Back, which is one of the very best episodes of all I think, and Destruction. I like The Long Sleep as well, although that's partly because of the sepia-toned sequences set around Covent Garden and Piccadilly Circus. The ones I like least are Timelash, Mindbender and Reflections In The Water. Do you think these eps have the same 'feel' as the earlier episodes? For me, Timelash is probably the episode which least shares the same 'atmosphere' (for want of a better word) as the classic, earlier set of episodes. Just my 0.02 Euros .. James :) |

Hello all
I know not many people will remember me - but to those that do and those that don't - Tony (Antonio) Caira here. From the depths of the Scottish Western Coastline (2 miles from the Faslane nuclear Sub base - where - as we all know - Sky Diver is located:) to the world of UFO Fans - a slightly belated and very hungover new year to you all. I just wanted to say something to those kind people that (e)mailed last year when I told the group my wife had just been diagnosed with cnacer - things are as follows: Chemo beeen going moderatley well. Absolutelu huh=ge operation coming up on 29th Jan. I have a sense of humour so feel free to say that the aliens in UFO would have a field day with the ortgans left over after this op. Spleen, part of a stomach, allsorts. Anyway - just to say to all those people: thanks for your well wishes at the time and if any of you can say a few kind words in your discussions with the chap above us all on the evening of the 29th it would be greatly appreciated! Back on topic - I don't knowe if this has already been discussed - but how many members have actually read the original Novels written about the series. I've been reading the very first one and have to say its rather good. It picks up on nuances like Freemans dislike for open spaces etc which complement and add a new dimension to the series episodes. Straker comes across as much more solitary and ruthless in this novel - but rather happy whenever on moonbase (maybe its all those lovely girlies!!:) OK folks - 3/4 way through this book - looking forward to getting stuck into the next one. Best wishes to all Tony |
