TIMELASH audio commentary

the_connoisseuruk
Just listened to the audio commentary on TIMELASH by Sylvia Anderson and Wanda Ventham and would fully agree that this is the best commentary on UFO[although I've yet to listen to the KLL STRAKER! commentary] that's been recorded. It was wonderfull listening to the two women reminisce about a show that they still, obviously, have a great fondness for after all these years. I thoroughly enjoyed all their anecdotes about the other actors, production staff, etc, and the making of the show-I'm sure they had enough for more than one episode! I wish the disc authors had turned off the dialogue on the episode, though, as it was difficult to hear some of what they said. Sylvia being Sylvia it was bound to be a little "controversial" as she wasted no time in claiming that she was responsible for far more about the show than just her official credits of format co-creator and Century 21 fashion designer. Personally I think we'll never know who was responsible for exactly what when it comes to the production of UFO, but Gerry has had ample opportunity to make his claims, so why shouldn't Sylvia take this chance to put forward her side? Sylvia is clearly wrong though, surely, in claiming that George Sewell was sacked because the US networks said he wasn't good-looking enough! It's a matter of record, isn't it, that George took the offer of another job during the UFO production break?

Both the TIMELASH and KILL STRAKER commentaries were a lot of fun, I
thought. Both sets of people seemed to be having a good time watching the
show. I much prefer commentaries like this than ones which are sometimes
dry. For example, Ridley Soctt's commentary on GLADIATOR is fascinating, but
VERY technical, while the times that Kurt Russell and John Carpenter have
gotten together have been a blast!

Well, actually both of those things are true -- the head of ITC New
York did NOT like George Sewell, but this was early on in the series
and resulted in his character getting de-emphasized and Col. Foster's
character added and enlarged. But you're right, this didn't really
have anything to do with him not coming back after the production
break...

I think you'll find that there are a lot of factual errors in all of
the commentaries & interviews, no matter who it is who's being
interviewed. Mostly I'd say that's because people don't have a very
clear memory of all those details from so long ago... (and why would
they?)
