The Complete Book Of UFO reissued!

They ARE doing a new restoration, which is what it really needed.  Whether or not they needed to take the original negatives out and rescan them, I'm not sure that was needed or not.  Maybe not if they still had the original scans, prior to any work being done on them.  

I will remain optimistic, as Network has done a really impressive job with their past deluxe releases (e.g. Space 1999, Professionals). And UFO appears to be one of their deluxe releases.

The updated cover artwork for the new COMPLETE BOOK OF UFO is now on Amazon.  Looks like it might now be a "Coffee Table Book", or at least the dimensions look different than before...

I think you're right, Marc, the Second Edition Hardback was more rectangular in shape.

But I do like the new artwork; much less fussy and cluttered than the previous version. My copy also has two forewords: one by Ed Bishop and the other by Donald James. I notice the new book now says, "Introduction by Donald James". Maybe he's written a new piece?

It says both Ed Bishop and Donald James on the cover, so I assume it's the same as the softback.

Donald James died in 2008.

I agree that the new cover is better and far less 'cluttered' than the previous one.

I put my pre-order in when it was £29.99, I used a £15 e-voucher to partly pay for it and it now shows in my account that Amazon owe me £8.01!

Now if only they'd reduce the Blu-Ray reissue price too as I have a £25 e-voucher on standby....

Yes, that happened a few days ago.... I've been wondering if it's an error, but so far it's held... apparently the price is quite low at HMV as well.

I still can't quite believe it.... £6.99 for a hardback book with free delivery!

Just ordered a copy!  

£6.99 !!!!   Even with postage and packing it's still less than £10!!!

Do you still plan to wander past HMV on November 14th? If Amazon can reduce the price of the book, then they must at least price match Network, if not HMV for the Blu-Ray.

Also, I just looked at Amazon USA, and it shows the book at 23 US dollars.  Where are you seeing 5?

I misread my Order page. The book is almost $22.00. The $4.87 was for a Jules Verne  book I purchased .

Will I be wandering past HMV on 14th November...?

Probably, yes.

I see the publication date for the book has now been changed to the 25th.  Same day as the launch event in London.

Well, this has all gone badly wrong for me.

I put my Amazon pre-order in like everyone else and received an e-mail on the 24th saying it had been dispatched and would be with me on the 29th.

That date came and went and no book and no update on the Amazon site by Royal Mail.

I contacted Amazon, they chased it up and I was told that it was still in transit (hah!) and to give it until December 6th. Went away on a mini break, came back, no book.

Contacted Amazon again, they contacted Royal Mail again - book is "lost" in their system i.e. stolen by some thieving lowlife. Will they do anything about it? What do you think?

James at Amazon UK has been great, really supportive, especially as the book is currently sold out on their site and you can only get it via Marketplace for £40! He told me that he would be refunding my £6.99, offered £5.00 compensation (it was the maximum he was authorised to pay out, though he was escalating the case and that figure may increase by someone higher up) and would be looking to sell the book to me at that original price when it comes back in, even if it were listed at £20 on the site.

He also said it would be dispatched using one of their couriers, not bloody Royal Mail! I actually think RM are pretty good, I just wish they would actually acknowledge that theft does take place within their organisation and not just close ranks and deny everything.

So, has anyone got their book and is it a good improvement on the original issue?

Well that's too bad... the GOOD news is that the 2nd printing will apparently fix some typos and have better quality photos.  At least, I read that somewhere.  I got my copy of the 1st printing from Amazon without issue, and it's basically a very nice color upgrade... I'm not sure if it qualifies as now being a "coffee table book", but it is a hardback and larger than the old versions.

Firstly, I was disgusted about the missing or stolen book.  Without going into too much detail, someone sent me some money a few weeks ago, in an envelope via Royal Mail, and when it arrived, the letter was in there but the money was not!  The envelope had been slit open and the money removed.  And I KNOW that this is what happened.  As I said at the time, if I got my hands on the guy who did it, he wouldn't be putting his fingers into any envelopes or anything else ever again.  And I kid you not.

Secondly, My UFO book arrived OK from Amazon, but is still in the package waiting for Christmas.  I am sorry to hear that there are a few typos and the photos are not quite as good as they could be.  I have flicked through it at the book launch and in the shop, but not looked at it properly.  

As a point of interest, I bought Richard Marson's book about Upstairs, Downstairs earlier this year and it is HUGE!  At least 600 pages and, if I remember correctly, it cost £35.  

Still, maybe there's more to say about UpDown that UFO.
