Thanks, Marc.

So, perhaps, something good can come from this sordid episode in that I may actually get an improved version of the book?

I knew it would be popular and I knew it would sell out, but some of those Marketplace mark up prices are just extortionate. I'm not paying that and am happy to wait until the 2nd printing, no matter how long it takes.

Thanks, Clare.

I was annoyed initially but I'm way past that stage now. Once it had gone beyond a certain date, I knew it wasn't coming and I knew it had been stolen. Sorry, "lost".

And remind me to NEVER upset you! I wouldn't like to see you live up to your surname!

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Guess what was waiting for me today when I got up? Yep, my book.

This is an item that was last tracked as entering the postal system on November 24th and has a label on the box saying "Delivered Scanned 48". It must have got here via Australia or something.

I suppose I should contact Amazon and let them know, but to be honest it feels like more bloody hassle than it's worth. I mean, they've already refunded my £6.99 and provided an extra £5.00 compensation, plus offered to sell it to me again at the £6.99 price when it comes back onto their site. When that happens, I'll just tell them that I got it as a gift, which I suppose I have considering it was, in effect, free.

I do feel a bit bad about this as I'm not in the habit of committing fraud. But they are a multi-national corporation with a turnover of billions, they probably won't miss £11.99 from their balance sheet.

Maybe I am just trying to justify this to myself and using this Thread as a confessional to alleviate my guilt....

Anyway, had a quick flick through and it looks so much better than the original book. I would say that it's a significant improvement on the previous edition (like the Blu-Ray Box over the DVD's), the colour photos look great to me and I'm not bothered about typos.

You've got a treat awaiting you, Clare, on the 25th!

Okay, I've perused it more closely now and it is so much better than the 2nd Edition.

The colour pictures give it more light and life, even though many of them seem to be just stills from episodes, and there are lots of new captions and updated information about the cast.

And you kept this quiet, Marc, but you are namechecked in the author acknowledgements - well done!

I still regard this as the definitive authority on UFO, with Andrew Pixley's book being a valuable and useful supplement.

Heh, I was in the acknowledgments for the previous edition as well.  I didn't actually do anything for the 3rd edition, although I can see that some of the color stills were taken from my ufoseries.com website.

The only publication that I actually did some work on this year was the Fanderson UFO Close Up booklet.

There is a four pages article/interview concerning the new edition of the book in recent issue 85 of Fanderson's FAB. There is also a small article about this unfortunate Network's Blu-ray box

All the best,
Branko

Yes, and the FAB article tells you to read pages 56 and 57 to get the REAL reason why Peter Gordeno left the show as Captain Carlin.  Which was held back until everyone involved had passed away.

The problem is...

The reason (trumpeted as a big scoop!) is already common knowledge!!!  I had a good read of pages 56 and 57 and it didn't seem to be news to me.  Andrew Pixley's book contains the same information.  And I believe it is also mentioned in an episode commentary and somewhere else.  Without giving too much away, it concerns a personal problem relating to Gordeno or his agent and the Grade organisation.

If I missed something, my apologies.  However, it seemed to me that this big revelation was already well known.

(Having said all that, I realise that it was desirable to give this book as many selling points as possible and it is possible that the more casual reader wasn't aware of this.  And the book still looks damn good!  Even though I haven't read it all yet!!!)

Oh, I didn't realize it was common knowledge... where was this mentioned before November 2016?  I thought that prior to that, it was just Peter Gordeno's agent that got the blame.

Without having access to the books, etc, I can't check.

The accepted story, of course, was that Gordeno only signed for six episodes in the first place which, of course, is not true.

Now don't quote me on this or take it as gospel, but this is what I had heard:

As I understood it (and this is off the top of my head), either Gordeno or Gordeno's agent had upset Lew Grade's brother in the past (possibly Bernard Delfont or Leslie Grade) and as soon as he discovered that Gordeno was in UFO (bankrolled by Grade/ATV) he demanded that he be dropped from the series.  Now I had definitely heard this somewhere before - although sadly at the moment I can't remember where.

If there is even MORE to this - and perhaps there is - then I didn't notice it when I very hurriedly read the pages in question.

Either way, it is not really an earth-shattering revelation.

(Sadly, for one or two reasons, I am not able to have a look through any reference material at this moment to verify this.)

Roll on December 25th when I can read the book properly!!

Yes, the revelation was that Gordeno was fired by Lew Grade, due to something the actor did once before for Lew Grade's brother.  I for one had not heard that before, or it I had, I'm going senile... :-)

Hope no hidden reason for departure from the series caused Gabrielle Drake's absence from special features on the disappointing Network's Blu-ray set

Forgot to say - the iconic briefcase image makes yet another appearance underneath the dust jacket! In fact, I kind of wish that they'd just used it as the main image as you have to be in the know to understand its significance....

Well I had to wait to receive my copy of this wonderful book in January, a week or so after Christmas but it was worth it and thank the heavens that when I ordered it at the low price Amazon didn't up the price!
Even though it's the same book as such it looks totally different!

I am stunned to see that sellers are charging £112 on Amazon Marketplace for this!

We were lucky to get copies when we did as there's no way I would pay that.

Why is this book always disappearing so fast is beyond me. I managed to get all three versions, didn't try to get fourth (revised)...

Three versions, Branko? I've got the new edition and the earlier black and white version but what may I ask is the other one?

I think there are 4 versions of THE COMPLETE BOOK OF UFO -- there were two black & white versions (one hardbound and one softbound), and two color versions (one released in late 2016, and one released in early 2017).  Although the two color versions are supposedly very similar.

First version: paperback/black and white. Second: Hardcover, black and white with color section (mainly material from Fanderson UFO cards). Third: Hardcover, color. Fourth: corrected text version of the third (haven't seen that one, only heard about it).

All the best,
Branko
