Marc, I finally had time to print the transcription of "The Patriot" and
read it since it rained the entire week we were in the Bahamas :( I don't recall anyone ever discussing what they thought about the script but there have been several times through the years when I was unable to read all of the SHADO posts and might have missed it. Can you tell me if there was such a discussion (so I could locate it in the archives)? If there wasn't a discussion in the past about it or if it was so far in the past that everyone has forgotten what was said, would anyone care to comment on whether they would have liked to have seen this "27th" episode filmed? If you do comment, make sure to warn others before they read the post so it doesn't spoil the script for them. Lorraine |

It's been a couple years since I read "The Patriot", but I think at the time I was rather concerned if this script was even filmable, as it seemed like it would require a lot of new sets and locations for the war scenes. Also perhaps it seemed a bit too political for UFO. And of course, Straker has to make all the hard decisions in the end, which wouldn't make him any more likeable to the audience... So while I would have certainly liked to have another episode of UFO, I'm not sure that this one would be it! Also, here's a link for anyone who'd like to read this script: http://ufoseries.com/scripts/patriot.html Marc |

Hi All :)
You know, I get a really funny feeling when reading 'The Patriot.' I've read all the other scripts, and to be honest just about everything it is possible to read about UFO. 'The Patriot' is SO different, the writing style is odd, the plot (certainly not really Gerry Anderson), I don't know. I'm sure the providence is right, and I trust what we have been told about its origins, but I just can't equate this script with the others... maybe that's why it didn't get done, but more than that, to me it reads like something, someone has written adjacent to the series. It just doesn't compute when looked at (read) in relation to the other scripts. Just getting my nagging thoughts out in the open... Best to all :) Griff |

I complately agree (as you perhaps know by now, I expressed exact sentiment here when I read the script, maybe even a bit harsher : ) All the best, Branko To: [hidden email]: [hidden email]: Thu, 19 Jul 2007 10:29:42 -0700Subject: Re: [SHADO] "The Patriot" script So while I would have certainly liked to have another episode of UFO,I'm not sure that this one would be it!Marc _________________________________________________________________ With Windows Live Hotmail, you can personalize your inbox with your favorite color. www.windowslive-hotmail.com/learnmore/personalize.html?locale=en-us&ocid=TXT_TAGLM_HMWL_reten_addcolor_0607 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

I had to assume it was the political nature of it that made me feel that way. In addition, I didn't feel that Straker's actions were typical of the way he would act even though he had made some unpopular decisions in other episodes. I am glad that the script did not get filmed. I'm not sure it would have been a popular episode to begin with and I don't think it would have stood the test of time. Thank you for providing us with the opportunity to read the script Marc. Lorraine |
