Hi all,
At last year's San Diego Comic Con, we showed a 2 minute clip from the 1970 UK TV series "Tomorrow Today". This featured an interview with Sylvia Anderson promoting her new show "UFO" and promoting the women's UFO moonbase outfit as a practical fashion for the future (with Antonia Ellis seen running around London in the outfit). Here is that clip -- it requires Quicktime 6 to view: http://ufoseries.com/movieClips/tomorrow.mov Marc |

Thanks Marc for this, you are amazing, getting all these photos/ movie clips and putting them up for us all to see! Sylvia comments on how an outfit like the moonbase costume would be taken up in the future and she was kind of right. I've seen jackets with detachable sleeves and trousers with detachable legs that turn into shorts, although only in the past few years. She says ladies could adapt an outfit from work to evening by (presumably) detaching bits, although I personally agree with Gerry's view, that it's probably nicer to just get changed!! Is it meant to be possible to save these quicktime movie clips to your own personal PC? If it is, I haven't a clue how to do it! Bye for now, Sarah |

That's one of the problems with Quicktime -- the "Pro" version (which costs money) makes it easy to save clips from the player, but the free version doesn't. Instead, try going to your email program, and to the message where I announced that movie. Right-click on the link, and see if your email program gives you an option to save/download the file that the link points at. This method also should work for your web browser, when looking at the Quicktime movies on my website: http://ufoseries.com/movieClips The one nice thing I like about Quicktime is that you can start watching the movie before it's downloaded, and that the user doesn't have to worry about downloading extra compressor/ decompressor ("codecs") files in order to get the movie to play. BTW Linux users should find that Mplayer will play these Quicktime films without having to install additional codecs; this one worked for me anyway. The "Tomorrow Today" clip uses MPEG-4 video and MPEG-4 audio, which is a first clip I've put up that's done that (the other Quicktimes on my site were all Sorenson Video and QDesign Audio). My personal preference would be to create .mp4 files, but I've downloaded at least a dozen evaulation versions of various programs, and nothing has the feature set that I'm looking for (e.g, Quicktime won't save an .mp4 to an arbitrary dimensions, Nero Recode won't let save an audio track as mono, some programs don't recognize the DVD/SVCD source material properly, or they only recognize the video but not the audio). And oddly enough, Quicktime will allow me to do what I want to if I save it as a .mov file, but not as a .mp4 file. Marc |

The Cult TV 1986 interview looks like it was professionally done or semi-professionally, having two cameras and lights etc. I imagine the organisers must have filmed other interviews at this event, on this occasion. Does anyone know if other events/ conventions over the years filmed interviews of UFO guests? Amelia (from EdBishopFans) told me there were audio recordings of interviews at Fanderson events available. I also downloaded the clips of the Gerry anderson documentary (is it Mr. Thunderbirds?) which I have never seen other than these clips. Was it a 'one-off' screening, or is it available to buy anywhere? I'd like to see all of it, if it's possible. One last question, does anyone know if there is a new name for the website www.supermarionation.net? It says the domain name has expired; I don't know if this means it simply doesn't exist anymore, or if this site goes by another name. Thanks. Have a good weekend everyone, Sarah (UK) |

Yes, there are the Fanderson cassettes (I have the cassettes, but will need to get a working tape deck to transfer them to my computer), and also one of the Fanderson conventions was videotaped (I lent out my original tape once and the person never returned it). Plus, I'm sure many of convention interviews are filmed by *somebody* -- I have a version of the 2000 Ed Bishop / Gabrielle Drake interview, and also some stuff from the ISOSHADO conventions. So, in theory, we could have lots of this sort of stuff available on the website. > I also downloaded the clips of the Gerry anderson documentary (is it > Mr. Thunderbirds?) which I have never seen other than these clips. > Was it a 'one-off' screening, or is it available to buy anywhere? > I'd like to see all of it, if it's possible. I don't know the answer to this -- I know it was broadcast in the UK, and somebody must have sent me a tape of it. Where that tape is now, I'm not sure... Marc |

If you're referring to the Channel Five "Mr Thunderbirds" documentary, didn't it go out in 2000? It got a repeat showing a couple of years ago, AFAIK. I remember taping it for future reference and then I inadvertantly taped over it. Argh!

That's a relief - I must have watched the repeat! I thought it seemed a bit too recent to have been five years ago, but time flies at a remarkable speed these days.
