Total DVD arrived/UFO release in UK & US

Phil,

the "Total DVD" mag has finally arrived :-)

It has a six-side feature under the title "No Strings Attached" (but
without a single UFO pic). About the DVD release of UFO they write:

For now, the other Gerry Anderson ITC series are notable for their
absence from the schedule, as Carlton does not wish to dilute the
impact of the Thunderbirds launch in September. Early indications are
that the next two Anderson series to be released will be Captain
Scarlet and UFO, though neither is expected to make their UK debut on
DVD until 2001.

All the ITC series - including Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet, UFO and
Space: 1999, have been licensed for video and DVD release in the USA
to the New York-based New Video, and Region 1 DVDs of some of these
series are currently being prepard for release on the A&E label.

This issue is easy to recognise for there is a big picture of
Thunderbird 2 on the cover with the title "DVD IS GO! - Thunderbirds
on DVD - The full F.A.B. Story!". The cover is framed in red - not to
overlook :-)

BTW, since last Saturday I am in DVD business too :-))

So, now that September has come & gone, did the THUNDERBIRD launch have
much of an impact? I know that there was a THUNDERBIRDS craze in the
early 1990's, but are people in the UK seeing this sort of thing
happening again now?

Ouch, does this mean that after the Teletubbies goods and now the Pokemon
ones, we'll have to buy all kind of Thunderbird-related stuff for the
kiddies? I wouldn't mind if it were just the puppets, but they cash in on
kids in any way possible these days... (and both those Teletubby and
Pokemon biscuits are way too expensive for what they taste like!!)

They do, but they always have really! I've still got Ed
Straker's
car, a rather battered Captain Scarlet's car, two Space 1999
Eagles
and a SHADO Mobile. And thirty years ago I had a really splendid
plastic Thunderbird One. Rremember the big Thunderbird models?
They
were huge! or they seemed like it at the time. Wish I knew what
happened to mine. I expect my little brother lost it.

Today while nosing around the shops at Canary Wharf I spotted a
Tracy Island model complete with TB1, TB2 and TB3, sliding
swimming
pool and everything! Although it must be said the island itself
looked a little too small compared to the Thunderbird vehicles.
I
may ask my mum for one for Christmas.

People write to me and address me as if I am Piper - I mean, NO WHERE on
my site do I make any statement even REMOTELY to the effect that I even
know the man personally! Just one of those internet oddities
