Here's a message which was posted on the Space:1999 mailing list:
========== Hi Folks, I am Kyle Clark co-producer of UFO:1999 and it's sequel. I would like to post an apology from all of us at 20th Anniversary productions to all 1999 fans who attended Main Mission 2000. The sequel, titled UFO:1999 Year 2 was indeed mailed to the New York Hotel as instructed by the convention "powers that be." Apparently no one ever picked up the tape from the front desk and 7 months of hard work was for nothing. It was never shown to the fans which is a shame considering that is why it was made in the first place. We did not do this video for money, we did this video so that we could be a part of this wonderful event. Well, I have had nothing but grief from these folks about our being finished so close to the deadline which was Saturday. The tape actually arrived on Friday but not a single member of the management team ever checked for our tape even though they were expecting it. We would love for you to post the sequel on your site at a later date and again we are devastated about this. Kyle Clark ============ |
If it's too large for posting on online, maybe we could get
a copy and do a B&P style distribution of the MPEG file on CDR. Can't we also sell copies of UFO:1999 (1 and 2) on a videotape in the old way? A video that long sounds like that as an .MPG file it would be longer than from here to the Moon and would take an age and an age to download and enough phone bill to buy a real Interceptor, particularly at dial-up line speed. Sorry: what is B&P? Kye Clsrk wrote on the Space:1999 mailing list:- > I am Kyle Clark co-producer of UFO:1999 and it's sequel. Uhh. About trusting busy people, Gandalf in the Lord of the Rings said about the nearly disastrous result of an innkeeper forgetting to post a very important letter:- > fat men who sell ale have many calls Perhaps it would have been better for someone in the UFO:1999 team to personally hand the tape to one of the people who was supposed to show it. |

Blanks and Postage. A now common term amongst CDR traders.
Implies a no-money exchange where I send or expect blank CDRs along with a SASE (Self Addressed Stamped Envelope). Usually the distribution is by tree or vine. If by tree, the "leaves" (end participants) send there CDRs to the "branch". We could just as easily do VHS tapes as CDRs. International B&P doesn't make as much sense. Postage for sending blanks can be more than the cost of the media. If we organize some form of distribution tree, it might make sense to have branches for US, UK, etc. I'd buy the tape if reasonably priced. But I won't spend $200 on Ebay for a "Music of UFO" CDR. Agreed.
Guess it's now a matter of getting a copy of UFO:1999 2 (1 as well?). Sounds like you can handle the video capture and encoding. If needed, I can help with CDR distribution here in the US. BTW, Thanks very much for the MrT clips. Actually I often send stuff all over the world, New Zealand, US, UK, Canada; often CD-ROMS, sometimes chocolates (for SHADO NZ for instance :-) or video tapes So far the cost of the postage has always been higher than the cost of the contents! Ridiculous really, isn't it?
