Hi All,
Helen Weber forwarded me this message she received from Ed Bishop: ------ Worked with Gerry A. yesterday supplying a Captain Blue voice to some toys coming out next Xmas. Apparantly you squeeze the doll and out comes me/Blue saying things like "S.I.G Captain Scarlet!!" It's a living. Anyway Gerry is hale and hearty and told me that Carlton HAD assigned the UFO Rights to Phillip! Phillip is now back in LA with further meetings with writers - so things are inching forward. ALSO Carlton TV will tell Gerry "in 4 weeks" whether or not they will go with the digital version of Capt. Scarlet! ------ |
I just read the e-mail from Mark Martin about the UFO2 update fromm Ed Bishop. I am waiting with baited breath for the whole thing to go into production! THAT would make my millenium!!!!!!!!!!!! ===== THE LORD IS MY ROCK AND MY STRENGTH. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get personalized email addresses from Yahoo! That's very interesting! But what does it mean for the possibility of a DVD release ..? Does it mean that Carlton don't know have the right to release UFO on DVD? Or have they merely given (or sold, presumably) Phillip permission to use their copyright for a limited time? James |

I'd love to know which writer's he's talking to and what their SF
credits are! And how familiar they are with Gerry Anderson's work (Especially UFO). If this really goes forward I'd hate for a new UFO film to be an unfamiliar writer reworking and updating the concept while missing the uniqueness of the original series. I assume that Carlton still holds the copyright on UFO, but I've asked that question of Helen, and she'll forward it to Ed Bishop, and perhaps eventually we'll get a 2nd or 3rd-hand reply! -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |

A site about Hypnosis in media...
8- And they have a page about UFO! 8-) It's nice and the links to the actors' names go to a link to IMBd, where a filmography, biography and notable TV guest appearances are noted. Seems pretty complete. And what is that Italian film (500)made in 2000? Our Bishopness appeared in it as a 'Father Jones'... Was it mentioned by someone from the Italian contingent here? Then, I must have missed it! http://hypnosisinmedia.com/Television/UFO/index.html Also found a nice 25th Anniversary Salute to UFO http://www.databyte.com/staff/misha/jigsaw/ezine/ufo.html Nicely summed up and written! --Anny |

Oops, dont know how I missed this string before, sorry I guess
someone beat me to this question. I too am thrilled that my favorite show is coming back! I am a bit worried though. In recent years several classic Sci-fi shows tried to resurface. I cant stress enough the importance of keeping the original magic of the show and not changing the format too much. At least keep the UFO's and Skydiver somewhat the same. Reading polls I see that many of you find the hardware your favorite aspect of the show. I do realize that the show has to be updated somewhat for the current times HOWEVER, attempts to do so of late have been disastrous. The only show that has managed to cross the barrier has been Star Trek. But notice they kept the same cast in the movies, the Enterprise looked much the same but sleeker and up dated, yet still the same ship etc. Now then to the disasters. The Invaders was another popular show with a cult following that demanded a resurrection. I was there when the news came THE INVADERS IS COMING BACK, WITH ROY THINNES, etc. The same excitement here was there with the movie and hopes of a new series. Unfortunately Thinnes had little more then a cameo in the series. Gone where the neat Invader ships, the cool way they disintegrated, Thinnes's draw for the show. The movie bombed with fans, other then Thinnes's short appearence as Vincent the movie didnt even remotely resemble the old series. Bomb number 2: Lost in Space- Again due to a great amount of fan interest a movie finally surfaced, and again the original cast only had cameos. The script was poor and the hardware only gave us brief glimpses of what was, the magic was gone, and that as they say was that. If UFO 2 also chooses to take a new direction and abandon much of what made the show magic for the original fans, then they better hope the new audience really goes for it. It is good to note that Phillip is a big fan of the original series and hopefully he will demand much of the same high quality production values, scripts and acting that Gerry and Sylvia gave us before. The key is to give us more of the same but tweak it a bit so it doesnt look dated. I hope this one is as promising as I think it will be! > >That's very interesting! The > only show that has managed to cross the barrier has been Star Trek. The scenario would have to change somewhat. We could use the original UFO scenario exactly, with new actors for existing characters where necessary, but within that scenario there is a limit to the amount of filmable episode stories that are reasonably different from each other and don't start to look as if the barrel is being scraped. Also, different people want different things. Some people want the mystery of the aliens to be kept. Some people want to know more about the aliens, compare Countdown / TV Action comic strip UFO stories where aliens talk, some aliens have personal names, and Foster visits the alien homeworld and comes back. |
