UFO CD example track!

Marc Martin

Hi all,

Here's an example track from this new CD:

http://ufoseries.com/music/fosterThugs.mp3

(from EXPOSED, when Foster gets attacked in his apartment by thugs)

Pretty good quality, eh?

Indeed, Marc, it *is* pretty good! I'm astonished!
I wonder which sources this guy has used?

I suspect these are derived from the reel-to-reel tapes that Barry
Gray kept in his garage. This seems to be the main source of UFO
music -- the only difference then becomes how many generations of
copies you're dealing with and the types of recorders used to record
those generations. Obviously this recording has gone through few
generations of high quality recorders! (most of the stuff we had
before was duplicated on normal bias audio cassettes, which ruined
the quality in one generation).

The equalization on these new recordings seem kind of funny to me --
I noticed the same thing with the recent Silva Screen THUNDERBIRDS
CD. Crisp recordings yes, but perhaps the treble should be turned
down a bit... or perhaps it's just me...

The only other high quality source of UFO music I'm aware of are the
multi-track 1/2" tapes which Fanderson is using to make stereo
versions of the music for their upcoming UFO soundtrack.
Theoretically these should sound even better!

Is there any word if Fanderson will be "enhancing" the opening track or any
other track on these new CDs?

There seemed to be a bit of a rumble in 1999-land over this......

I must have missed this discussion (?)

"Enhancing" in what way? They're going to be remixed into stereo,
which could certainly be considered an enhancement...

Marc:

I think it may have been the remixing into stereo. Granted hearing a mono
track in stereo is going to sound different, but IIRC the opening track just
sounds a bit 'off'...

I guess we'll have to wait and hear how it sounds.

Oh Marc, you know how traumatic that music is for me when those bullies go
in there spin that bookcase around throwing all the books on the
floor! How dare they treat books that way!

I wonder how the bookcase spinning scene would be with the music, "Merry Go
Round Broke Down" playing?

: - )

These bootleg soundtracks (Or whatever they are supposed to be
called...alternate soundtracks???) are usually sold at Chiller Theater in
New Jersey (next one at the end of April). I'll be going, do you think
they are worth picking up (I think they cost around $50 each) or should I
wait for the Fanderson release (Which I'm buying anyway) for you to do a
comparison.

Most likely, over 80% of the stuff on this CD worth having will also
be on the Fanderson CD. I suspect that the Fanderson CD will leave
off a lot of the little odds and ends that are on this CD, like the
music that can be heard on the radio and alternate takes and
outtakes, plus the music from the episodes which is recycled from
other series or created outside of the studio (like PSYCHOBOMBS,
REFLECTIONS IN THE WATER, CLOSE UP, SUB SMASH, THE CAT WITH TEN
LIVES, and SOUND OF SILENCE). So if you're looking for just the main
tracks, I'm sure they'll be on the Fanderson CD. However, if you're
looking for every single possible piece of music from UFO, then this
is probably be worth having too.

Spotting this CD should be easy -- it's a double CD, and has a
collage of photos from UFO on the front & back. I noticed that every
single photo on this CD can be found on my website. Also, on the
back it says "(c) 2002 Polygram Television International, All Rights
Reserved" !

Incidental Music from UFO

Griff!
Hi All :)

Just wanted to thank Marc for all the incidental tracks recently updated on
the site :) I've been really keen to get copies of those tracks since I was
a lad! It's really interesting and actually quite emotional to hear how the
unfaded sections of the tracks play...

Any other UFO musical bits and pieces available in the near future? Yep, I
know about the Fanderson Mega CD, but was just wondering.... hint hint ;)

Thanks again,

Griff

ps. I've been away for a month on Biz... congrats on getting the site
migrated, I know only too well what a pain and how frustrating that can be.

Your welcome! I'm actually a bit surprised that so few people
have commented on these. I would think this is a rather major
find. But I guess speculating on the casting of a UFO remake
is a more interesting topic... (?)

> Any other UFO musical bits and pieces available in the near future?

That was about all I was planning on putting on the website.
I really don't want to put *too* much up, as I'd prefer to
focus on quality over quantity. Also, I don't want to
discourage people from getting the Fanderson CD. If the
Fanderson CD turns out to have what I see as some glaring
omission, I may upload that track (if I have it) to the
website. (UFO had more music than will fit onto 2 CD's,
so something is going to have to be left out)

>congrats on getting the site migrated, I know only too well

Actually, I was quite stunned at how *easy* it turned out
to be. Got the files uploaded to the new site, got the
name servers pointing at the new location, got the
domain name transferred to a different registrar, and
closed out the account on the old site without (knock-on-wood)
a single problem! If I knew in advance it was going to be
this easy I would have done this years ago!

I thankfully agree, I downloaded music, turned it into a CD an am carrying
it all around listening all day. Can't wait for Fandersons CD!

Thanks again, Marc!!!

Unfortunately due to currency restraints, I can never become a member
of FANDERSON to purchase the CDs, but I am happy to be able to hear
these selected tracks, thank you so much Marc for sharing these, it
is a great addition to your already wonderful site.

Yes, the CD is expensive, and adding the cost of a Fanderson membership
makes it cost almost twice as much. I suspect that once the Fanderson
UFO CD sells out, Silva Screen will release a single disc version
that is much more affordable. However, that's probably at least a
year or two away...

Also, if you can get someone who is already a Fanderson member to
buy it for you, that would save the cost of joining. Fanderson
will allow its members to buy 2 (or perhaps 3) copies. Allowing
more would simply encourage folks to sell it for a profit on
eBay.

You're welcome! Here's a "bonus track", which I wonder if it will
appear on the Fanderson CD, since technically I don't think this was
used in the series. It's *very* similar to the music heard in the
beginning of Question of Priorities, with Straker and his son on
the fire truck:

http://ufoseries.com/temp/strakerAndJohnny2.mp3

(at least, I don't *think* this version was used...)
