Kevin, that was great. The funniest thing is that back in the 70's a billion dollar project was virtually unheard of , unlike today where the word trillion is now used. I have seen that episode 4 or 5 times and I cant help but think that Kelly sabotaged(sp) the close up project. Just my SHADO mentality. bsl

Things go wrong even with Billion or Trillion dollar projects. Think of the
Hubbell Space Telescope with the misground lens, sabotage or accident? Think
of the Mars Explorer probes that have gone bad particularly the one that was
suppose to go and have a better look at that face looking rock formation that
just stopped taking orders from NASA before it got to the planet, sabotage or
accident? And if it was a case of sabotage in Close Up do you think Straker
wound not find out? In that case you would not want to be in Kelly's space
boots. ;-0

Much more interestingly than that, it was an attempt at a "fix" by a
technician who didn't understand that the tolerances were calculated
for zero-gee, and re-set a tolerance to be correct at one gee.

Heat Rays, and the Government knows it. How else do you explain that
lame story about JPL mistaking Feet for Meters? The tripods are on
their way!

I liked the remark Straker made about how he could recognise a womans leg from any distance and then had to eat his words. I think that this episode was action packed and contained a lesson that perspective is just as important as fact finding. bsl

I would like to think that in real life there is no sabotage just really bad planning. In UFO Straker was betrayed so many times it was necessary to be hyper security conscious. The tripods did come and we beat their butts because of Adrien Paul. LOL.bsl

Kelly was not guilty of sabotage. He stayed with SHADO until it was disbanded by WW3. He was on Moonbase Alpha when the Space Brain attacked. LOL bsl
