UFO Comic Art

I hope the comic is a great success.Clearly a lot of hard work has been put into it.I will certainly support it when it is published.I,ve got no problem with a modern setting for UFO
by the way.The question is how much can it change before
it becomes something different.

James mentioned:

I,ve got no problem with this either, but's let's not pretend it's
the same creation that inspired it.

Again no difficulties with the modern day setting. My objections come about when too many liberties are taken for their own sake that don,t expand/explain the events and ideas portrayed in the original.
For example my own concept of the Aliens does'nt mean the Aliens are different,it just means their actions in the series are more easily understood and accepted...I hope

Hi Mark, Mike and all - I've TRIED really hard to maintain the spirit of the
original UFO, the characters and personalities, the issues, and esp the
mysteriousness of the aliens and their weird gambits in my stories. I also
"try" to follow canon, although that doesn't mean I won't read a story which
doesn't. I feel in fanfic, alot of ideas work and fit (except slandering the
characters and the actors who portrayed them - you know what I mean on this
issue). The main reason I've moved many of my stories into the present (i.e.
yr 2000 and beyond) is because I love the challenge of pitting the
characters and SHADO against the aliens in a more updated time frame - it
give me some interesting options - like cross-overs (which of course could
be construed as anti-canon at times), the usage of real historical events
taking place in the post 1980's decades, updated weaponry and hardware, new
characters et al.

I'd like to support the comics and buy them if possible (I'm in Canada - how
can I get them?). For me, these comics will represent NEW UFO adventures -
something we fans can all use and enjoy!!!

Not really - there is no possible way to slander an actor by
manipulating a fictitious character in a work of fiction, no matter
how strongly the actor may be associated with the character.

The characters themselves, being imaginary, are fair game I think.

I was aware of what you were referring to - and still maintain
that actors can't be slandered via their characters.

Whether a rampantly promiscuous, homosexual Straker (or Freeman,
or Foster ..) IS really the same character is a different question
though.

I don't believe that it is. You have taken a character "Off the path" so to speak, and shoved them into an alternate world. I can't see Straker getting it on with every woman who crosses his path, but they are still fun, because they are POSSIBLE, given his record in the TV show.
Vampires and other cross over/weird events are also possible, but much more unlikely. But the sexual, as well as most other, habits of the characters are too well established to do more then cringe at some of the stuff that I have read.
Not to knock Pam or Denise, or any of the others, especially given that I have never put any of my own stuff on the site, but part of the joy in reading FanFic is that it is "Possible,"just we didn't get to see it in the show or it was implied by the sequence or that one.
SLASH is more like the theather of the absurd or a Mirror Universe where everthing is twisted around. Fun to vist, sometimes but not very believable.
PS I can't believe that Mac is letting this thread go considering what happened the last time that SLASH was discussed in this group. I think Yuck is still mad at me for picking on her Knight in the tub

Heh, heh... yes, I'll probably start deleting further posts on the
subject... it's certainly a topic that has caused far more trouble than
good in the past... :-)

What's wrong with slash? The choice to read/write it lies with the
individual - you make your choice others make theirs - live and let live!

Pam that's all I can ask for.

As for ordering the comics, stay tuned.

Marc I apologize for bringing the whole topic up in the first place - we all
have our separate views - "'Nuff said" (quoting Stan Lee) Pam
