UFO Copyright Owners

Hi all,

For those of you keeping track of who owns UFO, it appears
that "Granada Ventures" is no longer the correct answer,
as it appears that Granada Ventures has now become
"ITV Global Entertainment":

Thanks for letting us know! ITV is notorious for their cropped "Thunderbirds" Blu-ray discs...

All the best,
Branko

And I'm sure they'll be notorious for their cropped "UFO" Blu-ray
discs someday... :-)

Although, most of the comments I've seen from people who have seen
the 16:9 HDTV versions of UFO are positive...

I didn't realise Thunderbirds was on Blu-ray, that's almost enough to convince me to buy a player :).

However, I'd be interested to see some side-by-side comparison between the 4:3 DVD and 16:9 Blu-ray; I've seen a number of episodes of Space 1999 in 16:9 HD and I didn't feel that I was missing anything. After all, when shooting film for TV in those days the important action was almost always framed close to the center of the screen because there was so much variation in the amount of overscan on different TV sets.

I did some frame comparisons here:

But you're right -- for the most part, the missing top and bottom on
Thunderbirds (and even UFO) are not that noticeable to the casual
viewer...

RE: UFO Copyright Owners

Thanks for the oportunity to see the difference!
I was very curious to see how Thunderbirds HD look like, guessing how it will impact UFO in HD. I can see that the new images are brighter (sometimes even too bright), have more detail, colors are more vivid but sometimes lean towards bluish, and contrast is stronger without much loss to black crush. The loss in the composition is unacceptable for me, though...

Thanks again
and all the best,
Branko
