UFO DVDs

EHG916
Just got a card from A&E, DVDs on back order , will be shipped in 25 days.
What happened to July 2 shipping. I think they rushed themselves. Is there
another company selling DVDs in U.S. Was there a discount house in US
selling them. I think A&E is pulling a fast one. Promised but can not
deliver. I ordered May 14, was willing to pay the price. Could you please
send me other companys names. Thanks Elaine

25 days? I wonder if that means that the July 30th date is going to
slip a month as well? A&E has had to delay their DVD's by a month in
the past -- they just couldn't get them done on time. If you cancel
your order, let us know if the customer service folks have any more
info on the shipping date.

Here's the cheapest source of the UFO DVD's:

Following up...

I just called A&E customer service, and they said that they now
expect to receive the UFO DVD's on July 17th, and will ship
in a few days after that. They couldn't say if this affects
the retail availability date or not.

I think A&E intended to meet the July 2nd date, but could not
because Carlton wasn't sending them the materials they needed
to put them together on time. For example, they were waiting
quite a while to receive the tape with the extra materials
on them, but when it arrived they discovered that Carlton
had sent them the extra materials for the 2nd set! So they
then had to wait some more...

Just to be clear here --- if A&E doesn't have the DVDs in its possession, then
NO ONE else does. They are the rights holders -- unless something went screwy
only on their end, then you'll find that no one else has them in stock either.

Also -- all other sales channels don't have them for sale until July 30 (at
the earliest).

According to Deep Discount DVD, their shipping date is 9 Jul 02...

Re: UFO DVDs

True, but I'll be very surprised if DDD actually ships on that date. My
feeling is the DDD was in error with the July 9 date from the beginning.

The point of my post is that A&E/New Video produces the actual DVDs --
therefore, if they don't have them in their possession due to the fact that
they haven't even been pressed yet (see Marc's previous post under this
subject heading), then no other retailer is going to have them either.

No conspiracy, bait-n-switch, etc going on -- merely human errors causing a
delay.

No, but those few of us who were willing to pay double to get them a
month in advance still might want to cancel our A&E orders and
re-order from DeepDiscountDvd... seems like the month advantage is
now only going to be a week...

IMHO, I'm willing to wait it out with A&E. To me it's
encouraging that the 'suits' decided to delay the set versus
ship it without the extras. I SOOOOO much want the extras
and if I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer.

I will call customer service and complain if there isn't
more than a 2 week difference between their ship date and
the general retailer ship date, tho'. Not that I want my
fellow UFO lovers to have to wait, but I did pay more for an
advertised benefit. I want that benefit, or something else
to weight out my paying almost 45% more than DDD!

Yes, a lot of people complain about A&E "not caring", but
I think they're doing the right thing in waiting for the
extra materials, and I'm especially impressed that they've
commissioned additional extras for UFO box 2 that weren't
provided by Carlton.

Note that A&E is no longer advertising the "get it one
month before retail" on their UFO page:

http://store.aetv.com/html/catalog/vp01.jhtml?id=70495

So at this point, I'd say that it's not an advertised
benefit. Also note that in the beginning of July, A&E
opened up their "Cult TV" store, and is now offering
a 10% discount on all orders made in July. So if you
simply cancel your old order and place it again, you'll
save 10%!

By the way, for those of you who've only seen that
tiny picture of what the UFO cover looks like and are
wondering what the text says, at the top it says:

"From the FAB World of Gerry Anderson"

Underneath "Set 1" it says "13 Digitally Remastered Episodes"
And underneath that it says "Head Back to the Future With SHADO"
(the "SHADO" is part of the regular SHADO badge). So a bit
more lighthearted tagline than Carlton's "Aliens Have Landed
on Earth".

Isn't that considered an "impatience tax"?? ;-)
