UFO Movie-speculative artwork

>Most of it looks good (I always felt the UFOs >themselves could stand a little improvement).

Totally disagree with that. The UFO Saucer was an ingenious and very original design,It leant itself to a bewildering range of lighting setups that made it look different in almost every shot.
Add to that Derek Meddings desire to replicate the kind of images and photographs of UFO's during the 60's as something that would look indistinct and deceive the eye with its reflective flashing and strobing.
Also consider the way in which the model would appear glassy ,chrome ,dull silver then at times almost dark gray to black.
After all that accompany its appearance with the unforgettable sound effect.
This is one craft they cannot improve on.
I take it as some form of tacit compliment to Meddings design that no kit designer or professional model maker has ever duplicated the design and finish of the original.

Well, I imagine it's a matter of individual taste. I've never quite seen aflying saucer in an Anderson production that's entirely pleased me (e.g. Supercar "The Day That Time Stood Still", Fireball XL5 "The Doomed Planet", Captain Scarlet "Attack On Cloudbase").

The alien ships in UFO impressed me the most when they were landed and not moving (an exception being the lake battle in "The Sound Of Silence").

Also the shape was intrinsic to the story lines - the UFOs often hid
in heavily wooded areas; a larger saucer, as depicted, would not be
able to do that.

Since we're talking UFO designs...

On an Air Canada flight last week I got to watch 'Plan 9 From Outer
Space' again. Top-notch effects right down to the airplane steering wheels!

Sorry for the off-topic.

doesn't even mention ufoseries.com. This should be corrected.

Griff
Isn't "Plan 9" supposed to be the worst science fiction movie of all time... So bad, it's good, and it's become a cult classic!

Best, G

Anyone who is interested in this movie, it was voted worst movie ever, and the movie Ed Wood, starring Johnny Deep, the end of the movie showed how they made it. Martin Landau (of Space 1999 fame, just to keep it ontopic) won an oscar for his portrayal of Bella Lagosi in the film.
