Hi to all,
At last I have finally received Vol 5-8. I may be a little slower than the rest of you but I waited until it was cheaper from Amazon (£32.97)than on Ebay. In my teens when UFO was on its second showing in the UK, (starting with 'The man who came back',in 1974, (was it ever shown the first time around ?)) I taped all the episodes shown on to cassette tape (no videos then!) and played them constantly, until I knew the dialog word for word. In the mid 1980's, the Granada region restarted showing UFO again and I was on the case with videos, fantastic... Granada transmitted the whole series over nearly two years if I remember correctly, at various very late night time slots, I always sent them letters when they stopped showing UFO to ask that they continue and they were true to their word. The biggest shock was watching 'The Long Sleep' for the first time, I never knew it existed, after 18 years it was like finding a forgotten episode !! (not an April fool this time..) It may not be the most interesting bit of information but at least I did my bit in the 80's to keep it on the TV ! I also just recently rediscovered UFO. This is a great group to belong to.
I was 10 when i saw it and got in trouble because it was on at 3am. All i could remember was the theme song, the cool vehicles, and the walk of one of the female techs in the opening credits. Please let me know when you are online or give me permission to put you on my buddy list so we can chat. I was mad at Staker when he let his son die in Priorities but i changed my mind when i realised the transporter was carrying the mobiles and it was only a tv show. Sometimes i get carried away but the show was cool for its time. bryan [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
I was also 10 when UFO was broadcast in Spain. The problem was it was
at 3 pm, and I was bound to go to school! Exactly like you, I was fascinated with the hardware, with Straker, with the back of Ayshea walking through the headquarters, and with Gabrielle Drake. I only saw some episodes. I remember very clearly the first one, the one in which Paul Foster was abducted, the death of Straker's son, the hallucinations thereof in "Mindbender", plus several others, such as "Court Martial" and "The Long Sleep". This one was not censored in Spain: we haven't then the slightest idea of what LSD was! It captivated me. Some years latter, they released a movie made up of three episodes: "The Cat with Then Lives", "Time Slip" and other I don't remeber which it was. I remember Time Slip also fascinated me, all the time worried about the drug Straker took, and wondering why he has left behind Virginia Lake... |

I think the reason he left Virginia Lake behind is because it was the 1970's.
Most Sci fi shows are geared to males and male heroes than females and female heroes. Gerry Anderson did have respect for his wife and partner so some females had greater roles. Leaving Lake behind because she had been knocked out made since at the time. Look at Buffy today. Buffy the Vampire Slayer. SHe is blond, petite, and deadly with a sword or any type of weapon. She also has super strength and speed. SHe runs through her town not in a vehicle. But Buffy is in the 1990's and 2000's. bsl [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
