Not giving a time frame are they. I think the 3 years may have come from the years that it was first run in UK , US

With the conclusion of Cannes, Mr. Evans' publicist has been working overtime. I'm sure all of you have noticed these UFO "articles" are basically identical, and it is obvious that they are the the work from the same publicity machine. While it would be great to see a UFO movie someday, at this point I think it is only a veiled attempt to gain studio interest and a possible development deal. Only time will tell. (And I have a feeling it will be a long time.)

I think there may only have been one original article (the one in
VARIETY), and everyone else is simply passing on what they read on
VARIETY.COM

But yes, those of us who have been around here for awhile have
noticed that every few years there is an article like this, but
none of these announcements go anywhere.

One odd / suspicious thing about this news release -- I just did
a search on these two script writers, and could find no mention
of them having written anything previously.

Anyone else have better luck searching?

This does look quite promising, though. Robert Evans is notorious in Hollywood circles. He was the young actor that took over Paramount studios when they were languishing at last place on the studio charts and turned it around with hits like 'Love Story', 'Chinatown' and 'the Godfather'. He discovered Jack Nicholson amongst others. His career as studio chief ended under acloud of scandal, but legends die hard in Hollywood. If he wanted to make UFO: The Motion Picture he certainly could.

Re: UFO film in development

Mario Butter
I especially like this line: "The show's dark tone, uncertain enemy,
and complicated characters arguably make it a fit far better with the
science fiction of today (like Battlestar Galactica) than it ever did
with the lighter shows of the 70s (like, well...Battlestar
Galactica)."
