Fanderson has resported some sad news. Michael Billington passed away on Monday and Ed Bishop passed away today. http://www.fanderson.org.uk/news.html#EdandMike __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? This is devastating. I really admired both and was always hoping to
meet them some day at a convention. Our thoughts go out to their families and friends... I heard about this when I woke up this morning, and then later got confirmation from Chris Bentley of Fanderson. People in the UK should check their local obituaries pages for possibly some more information, and I'm sure the Fanderson news page will be updated as well. SHADO-USECC's Helen Weber is planning on calling Ed's wife Jane tomorrow, so perhaps we'll learn more from her as well. A very sad day... Marc |

Okay, I see what the problem is -- some people have Internet access providers that cache old versions of web pages, so you are unable to see the latest version (AOL reports it may take up to 24 hours for their caches to update). So here is a copy of the Fanderson FAB NEWS page: http://ufoseries.com/ed.htm Marc |

Well fellow UFO-ers, it just breaks the heart. I felt terrible when
DeForrest Kelly (aka Dr. McCoy TOS) passed a few years ago. Now I feel more of my childhood heroes are gone. Gentleman, hail and farewell. You were loved and appreciated for the excitement and happiness you gave to us fans, and you never forgot us either. You treated us with the utmost kindness and courtesy. I had the priviledge of a complimentary e-mail from Mike B. in 2000 when I sent him a copy of my fan fic "Orion" and I usually sent him a birthday e-mail every December (he was a Capricorn). Ed was kind enough to sign a program to me through another fan at a con several years ago as I mailed a copy of SOS Titanic to the con organizers so they could have a clip of Ed playing Henry B. Harris, the theatre impressario who went down on the famed ocean liner. The film was done in 1979 when Ed was making the rounds in California. They will be missed! Pam the Canuck |

Hi, Marc,
Wednesday, June 8, 2005, 11:26:30 PM, you wrote: M> Since I've already received one email complaint about this M> being a cruel hoax, let me assure you it isn't. While I don't for a moment think that you'd be behind such a hoax, I'm beginning to suspect that you may be the victim of one. No other news source I can find has even a mention of these deaths, including a google news search, the Times of London, BBC News, CNN Yahoo Entertainment News, and Variety. The ONLY place reporting this is Fanderson. While certainly this isn't the kind of "news" the death of Anne Bancroft was, the oddity of two stars of a cult favorite TV series passing away within a couple of days would obviously merit some sort of mainstream news coverage. Until I see confirm elsewhere, I consider this an unconfirmed rumor -- Jonathan Andrew Sheen http://www.leviathanstudios.com Leviathan of the GEI (Detached.) [hidden email] "What'dya expect? I must admit, although it's a little morbid, that I'd often reflected on Ed Bishop's advancing years, and thought that this day might come in a few years' time, but not so soon. Michael Billington's death is even more of a shock really, since he was about ten years younger than Ed. I was fortunate enough to meet Ed by chance at a small supermarket in Covent Garden a few years ago, and found him to be a thoroughly nice chap. I know that both Ed & Mike meant a lot to some of the ladies on the list in particular, and I'd like to extend my sympathy to everyone who's saddened by this news. Hi,
I just heard about it and it gave me a real shock. I don't think I can find the right words in this situation but I highly appreciate their work and what they've done for all of us. They influenced my childhood, though and I'm sure many others, too. They will live in our hearts and as long as they do they're not really dead. Very sad greetings from Austria, Nina, Linda and Patrick |

I don't think I can find the right words in this situation but I highly appreciate their work and what they've done for all of us. They influenced my childhood, though and I'm sure many others, too. >> As has been mentioned by several others, I too am someone whose imagination is caught by a character or programme / series but doesn't get interested in the actors that interpret those characters and give them life. Having said that... I feel oddly sombre about the passing of two people I didn't know. UFO and it's good vs bad vs sometimes ambiguous view of life and right and wrong did have an impact on my childhood. Right now I feel as if a little bit of that childhood just got packed away forever. Maybe it's because something like this reminds us of our own mortality which is always rather sobering. So thank you to both Ed and Mike for giving me characters that have lasted for the past 33? 34? years. And will last for much longer thanks to those DVDs. A nice thing is: those DVDs generated such a high level of interest in the series and the actors... both Ed and Mike were here to be aware of that, probably be a bit bemused by it... and enjoy it. At least they and their families didn't miss out on that. Best regards to you all, Carly |
