UFO on DVD in America

hazekel
At AandE.com you can find that the first set (apparently) half the
episodes will be released to DVD in July for North America. There
are no details on which episodes or what special features but it
looks like A&E will continue to release Gerry Anderson DVDs to
America.

Hey, thanks for that information! I hadn't seen that on
their website before. So what does everyone think of the
cover artwork? A bit tacky perhaps, but I think it's a
very good idea to put Straker and Lt. Ellis on the cover.

And I've just pre-ordered my copy from A&E! (for me,
I'd rather have it a month ahead of time than to save
money buying it elsewhere)

The website states that this is 676 minutes, which looks
like it might include 14 episodes instead of 13. So that's
3 and 4 episodes per disc... more than we're used to seeing
on A&E. The Carlton UFO DVD Box 1 was listed at 620 minutes,
which seems to back that up...

Although 676 minutes divided by 14 episodes is 48.3 minutes
per episode, which, if accurate, would indicate that these
are speeded up... :-( Fortunately, running times on
video labels aren't known for being very accurate.

WARNING for all the UFO collectors (ouside USA and Canada) that want
the new USA A&E UFO DVD.
On the web page for the UFO DVD, A&E add:

"This product is unavailable for shipment outside the U.S. and
Canada."

I don't think it's tacky at all. I like it much better than the UK cover
art.

Everyone complained when there was no Straker, et al on the UK covers, now
you're complaining when there is?

Anyway, nice to see it's available for pre-order.

Re: UFO A&E USA DVD

Angelo:

As the R1 licensee, A&E technically can *not* ship outside Region 1, but it
shouldn't stop other retailers (like Amazon.com) from doing so. If you check
the other A&E/Carlton DVDs, you will see the same disclaimer.

Obviously -- if there is a real need for non-R1 fans to obtain this box set,
R1 fans can purchase and send it overseas. :)

Ahhh, but in fandom, you'll always find SOMEONE who has SOMETHING
to complain about! :-)

Actually, instead of starting off on a negative tone,
I should take a step back and put the cover in perspective:

* I like this much better than those horrible A&E Space:1999
covers

* I like this better than the Carlton UK UFO DVD#1 box cover

* I like this better than the TF1 French UFO DVD box cover

My only complaints about this is the purple band on the
top, and the red rectangle underneath the "Set 1". Also,
I could do without the SHADO logo.

But really, this is a pretty good cover considering some
of A&E's past DVD covers!

To be honest with everyone, I'm just happy they FINALLY got around to
releasing UFO on DVD! I don't care what the package looks like, I
just want clear, crisp, COMPLETE episodes.

I felt the same way about T-Birds and 1999. Too bad the first run of
1999 didn't quite live up to that standard.

I never got exposed to Scarlet, so I'm looking forward to that series
as well.

The UK box set was cheaper by $20 when you bought it
at a discount. Based on the pricing of the A&E Captain
Scarlet DVD's, the A&E UFO DVD's will most likely
sell for $45 at a discount. Which is $15 cheaper
than the UK sets...

... and several hundred dollars cheaper than the
Japanese laserdiscs... :-)
