on building a UFO model. Does anyone know how the different sounds for a UFO were generated? Just curious. I remember when I was about seven years ago, trying to imitate with my mouth the different sound effects heard on the show (explosions, interceptors, UFOs, etc.) while playing with crude models of interceptors, planes, and UFOs that I had built with my Lego set! By the way, something else I noticed on IDENTIFIED, the UFO sometimes rotates clockwise or counter-clockwise, depending on the scene! (It is a bit hard to see, but I think this is correct). Maybe that was a trick used by the aliens in order not to get sick inside their rotating craft! :-) David Levine |

Good to know others are interested in the model of the UFO. The sound effects were created by Barry Gray, who did all the music for UFO and previous Anderson shows.Goodness knows how he created the the eerie sound that accompanied thier appearance As a boy I did exactly the same as you, although I,ll substitute your lego for good old cardboard and coloured pencils. The Model UFO could probably spin in alternate directions, however on many shots, the same piece of film was used in reverse. Also a characteristic of film (the model effects were filmed on 16mm) involving subjects that spin is that if they spin at a particular speed in relation to a selected shutter speed the effect is to create an impression of backward movement even though the model is turning in the opposite direction. At times the object can appear to be stationary. If you want to know more about the model UFO check out my website, its still under construction but you may find it of interest. That is why I tend to think of the UFO's girdle of gravity plates rotating and the rest of the UFO not rotating. |

Still, hadn't seen it for nearly thirty years, and it's a lot of fun. Recommended! James |
