UFO "spinner" noise

Rob Hemmings-2
Hi all,

While Thunderbirds are in the air (sorry<g>), I caught part of the one
about the "Crab-logger?" last Saturday on UK's BBC2, and couldn't quite
believe my ears when the scene of Parker using some sort of hypnotic ray
weapon ("truth gun"?) on a "baddie" came on; I'm pretty sure that the
sound used for the gun was a speeded-up version of the sound a UFO
makes! (Which, chronologically, means that the UFO sound is actually a
slowed-down version of the Thunderbirds "truth gun".)
Unfortunately Parker didn't use it again, so that diving across the room
to hit "instant-record" was a bit of a wasted effort, really!
If anyone has this ep, and can capture that sound and post it to the
SHADO files area, I'd appreciate it (then you'll be able to hear what I
mean).
Does anyone know the name of this episode, as the announcer said it
wasn't the advertised one, so I'm not sure the web listings are
accurate?

Hi Rob,

I checked this out tonight, it's the "Path of Destruction"
episode on volume 7 of the DVDs.

Not a baddie, just a security guard who wouldn't let Lady P have
a look at the personnel records, and the gun just put him in
a trance while she nosed through the file.

It _does_ sound a bit like a high-pitched spinner, but Gerry
Anderson made a lot of use of this kind of sound effect in
Thunderbirds, and I don't think it would sound quite the same
when slowed to the same pitch.

Sorry, can't capture the sound as my laptop's DVD drive doesn't
do region 2 :( I'm not sure if I have the software to do it
in any case, but maybe someone will be able to help.

By the way I picked up a paper in a coffee shop on the Strand
this morning, I think it was the Telegraph - or possibly the
Times - and there was a photo of Gerry Anderson with some toy
Thunderbird people (miniature Scott, Virgil & co). The story
was that Tracy Island is one of the most sought after Christmas
presents in the UK this year. I flipped the page, and the
next headline was "Skydiver crashes into roof at 150 mph and
survives"! I'm not making this up, honest ..

Cheers all
James
