Wondering if anybody else caught this ?
There were three Thunderbirds compilation movies made sometime after the series ended. One of these was called "Thunderbirds in Outer Space" and consisted of episodes "Sun Probe" and "Ricochet". There is a scene where the UFO theme is being played over the radio (broadcasted by a 'pirate satellite station'). I assume this was dubbed in afterwards, and was not the original music that was used for that scene (of the 'Ricochet' episode). Anybody have that individial episode on tape who can confirm this ? |

Anyway I have the TB DVDs so will check. James |

Because the bass line in the original piece of music there is hopelessly out of tune in parts, by about a semitone. |

I checked my THUNDERBIRDS IN OUTER SPACE tape and you are right - on two occasions they played the UFO main title. First when the two guys on the satellite are talking before they were hit by the explosion and then again at the end when "Ricochet" deliver his thanks to IR. Sadly I haven't got the THUNDERBIRDS DVDs yet (have to wait till my account allows it :-/ ), so I can't say if this was dubbed only for this compilation. As far as I can remember there exists no individual episodes of "Sunprobe" and "Ricochet" on tape, only on DVD. On the other hand I always found some UFO music on older Anderson shows, back to STINGRAY! So it doesn't seem impossible that this theme was composed in 1965 and later used as main title for UFO in 1969. Hope this is of use for you. Christian (oh, I'm back again :-) |

The UFO theme does indeed appear in THUNDERBIRDS IN OUTER SPACE, but that compilation movie was made in 1980, and they simply replaced the radio music heard in the original episode RICOCHET with the UFO main theme. -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |
