UK UFO DVD limited editions available again?

Marc Martin
Administrator
Hi all,

Someone pointed out to me that the UK limited
edition UFO DVD sets are now available on Amazon.uk:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00005V319

I thought these had gone out of print years ago, so
I don't know if this is a reprint or they found
some stuff in a warehouse somewhere... (?)

I was interested to see that Amazon are also selling the Chris Bentley Complete book of UFO........ to pre-order! I tried ordering it last year and was fobbed off by them until eventually they told me it was out of print.
Might try again though!
And I'll have to get another set of UFO DVDs as mine are getting seriously battered from being taken to work each day! _ well I have to watch something when I have nothing to do!

After alerting Marc about it, I found out that it is only the first boxset with Vol. 1-4 that is somehow available directly from Amazon UK; what is strange is that ITV Studios Home Entertainment is listed as the release studio, maybe they found some old Carlton stock somewhere. However, its interesting the 2nd boxset is seemingly available as new also from various Amazon UK affiliated sellers. Mine was shipped yesterday, will update as soon as I receive it.

Re: UK UFO DVD limited editions available again?

Update: I just received my boxset, and this is really interesting, it's a CARLTON/ITV DVD HYBRID REPRINT!

The box is a new reprint by ITV DVD of the Carlton set, but for some reason, vol. 2-4 has the ITV DVD logo instead of the Carlton. The boxset is a copy of the Carlton. I have taken some photos of the sealed box and will upload them in the photos section of the group.

The design of the individual volumes 2-4 has the Carlton Visual informationremoved on the backside while retaining the www.ufo-dvd.com information. Iam uploading photos of vol. 1 and 2 these as well.

Interesting! So they reissued Volumes 1-4, but not Volumes 5-8?

I'd think that in this day and age, they'd just release the whole
series in one box. But I guess it's cheaper to just use the
existing box design.

It's even more of a hybrid that you mentioned -- in the original
release, each disc didn't come in their own case. So they are
using the cases that were used when they re-released the set as
8 distinct volumes.

Yes, on my "Videos" page, I've got photos of the original release
of the collectors edition. For example, this photo shows how
the discs were stored:

http://ufoseries.com/videos/ukDvdBox1HolderIn.jpg

(this was a terrible design -- the discs always keep falling
out of the case!)

OK, found the photos of the 2002 release at your site, wow yes, this is surely a cheap hybrid mutant! I believe (hope) the Amazon UK affiliated sellers are still offering sealed copies of the original 2002 release. Anyone?

Yes, so far at least, but what I dont get is why vol.2-4 had the Carlton info removed, but not vol. 1, that is weird!

The graphics designer probably just made a mistake -- having helped out
with some past UFO video releases, it's kind of surprising to me how
rushed things are when they are putting together videos. They don't
spend the a 1/10th of the time that I would if I was releasing UFO
on video... :-)

When I bought my set of DVDs last year, the first disc (1) didn't have a 'flier' inside, although the other discs (2,3,4) did. dISCS 5 -8 were in clear plastic boxes as well.
Not sure what I'll get this time! But it will be worth it I hope as I have got a new laptop and the quality of the images on DVD is phenomenal!! (compared to the cheap craptop that I got from work!)

Re: UK UFO DVD limited editions available again?

Hi guys.
This repackaged Carlton set has been out for a while now because I distinctly remember seeing it in August in HMV (in Reading in England). I remember this because it cost £50 and they had a similar problem with the ITV DVD and Carlton logos on the side of the box. Only volumes 2, 3 and 4 had the Carlton logo and only volume 1 had the ITV DVD logo! This seems very weird and I know I am definetly not mistaken because it was the first time I had seen the volumes 1-4 in their own cases as I have both the digi-pack cases. They didn't have volumes 5-8, but I know that when UFO was on ITV 4, at theend of every episode they would advertise the volumes 1-4 box set, so it is obviously just a rushed re-release and has been done very carelessly.
Hopefully the Blu-Ray release (if it ever comes out) will be much better!Elliot

Anyone notice the errors on the Carlton boxed sets? I haven't got them in front of me right now, but on the actual boxes it lists John Rutland as Barnaby Shaw (should be the other way round!), and it states the 70's (with an apostrophe when it should be 70s). Sorry for being so picky, but they really should get it right FIRST TIME!!!

There really should be a compulsory remedial apostrophe course for all those
who misuse and abuse it.

If you think that's bad, you should have seen some of the late '90s VHS

I had a VHS Thunderbirds tape that had typing in the background at the beginning.... and there was certainly one extremely 'dodgy' sentence there ifyou paused the tape. All about Brains being somebody's love-child!. Don't know if the same was true of the UFO ones!

Yep, you caught me out there - it should be '70s to be absolutely correct. It annoys me on News 24 on the horizontal scrolling text when they use words like THERE'VE. Such an ugly contraction!!!!
