Vote for UFO on JumpTheShark.com!!

Teresa
What is 'jumping the shark', you ask?

"It's a moment. A defining moment when you know that your
favorite television series has reached it's peak. That
instant that you know from now on... It's all downhill!!
Some call it the climax. We call it 'Jumping the Shark'."

At the site you may vote on any show and name the event in which which
you feel the show 'jumped', if it did at all. So far, UFO has 11
votes, 10 of which are 'never jumped'.

Only handful of shows are classified as 'never jumped'. for the show
to be classified in the category:

"An overwhelming majority of 'Never Jumped' votes is required
for safe passage here. And you've got to have more than a
handful of total votes as well."

Let's make UFO part of the few, the proud. Cast you vote for UFO at
http://www.jumptheshark.com today!!

Count me in. I'm new to the list, by the way, so
greetings to all. I watched the show as a child in
the U.K., and also on Italian television (excellent
dubbing jobs), but since moving to Canada, I have not
had many opportunities of watching the show other than
the film-compilation version. I'm currently in the
process of building my video collection, however, so
hope lives eternal. At the moment, I'm getting a daily
fix of Michael Billington on "The Onedin Line" (BBC
Canada), hence the ridiculous smile on my face as I
recall childhood fantasies :)

Cheers,

Louise

Well, I tried to vote, but I got a wacky error.

CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete
set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:

Ho hum.

Worked for me this time using Konqueror instead of Opera. I
sharked in an all new 'it went pear-shaped' category. The
second set of episodes were generally inferior to the first set
filmed at MGM in my view, so I think that that UFO did jump the
shark.

Huh? There was only one season. Or are you referring to the MGM
Borehamwood vs. Pinewood episodes? I wouldn't really consider that
jumping as the order of showing was mixed so there is no clear
dividing line between the two sets of episodes.

Yes, that's what I'm referring to - the second set of episodes,
filmed at Pinewood. The running order used by different TV
stations is not very consistent - in fact I think Marc has a page
dedicated to this on his site - but in any case I would point out
that the Pinewood episodes were filmed later and are distinct from
the MGM episodes in that several key members of the original cast
are absent, they generally have a somewhat weird flavour and are
mostly inferior. That latter point being in my humble opinion,
and relatively speaking of course ..

They may on occasion have been interspersed with the MGM
episodes in running order, but I think that to deny that the
shark was jumped on this basis is a bit pedantic. In any case,
we mostly depend on recordings to see UFO these days, and
speaking personally I go by Marc's recommended running order -
(see http://ufo.simplenet.com/faq.html#16) - which does follow
the production order exactly in respect of the last nine episodes.

Fair enough. But then I liked many of the pinewood eps however.
Particularly Cat w/10 lives, and Destruction (Philip Madoc is a real
badass as the ship captain)

OK folks, we nees at least 28 more "never jumped" votes to get UFO up
to the "never jumped" category. Larry Saunders Show has 40 "never
jumped" and 2 "day one"'s If we can do the3 same for UFO then it's a
shoo-in!

Yes, I do like Philip Madoc's performance as the Naval Captain
in Destruction. Love the bit where he sees Sky One burst
through the waves to take on the UFO. "What the DEVIL's that?!!"

On a related note - are there any other instances in UFO of an
actor playing different characters in different episodes? Can't
think of any.

Maybe I was unfair to say that UFO jumped the shark. I mean - the
Pinewood eps were definitely not as good as the MGM ones, on the
whole. But, they still had moments of greatness.

Shane Rimmer:
Lt. Bill Johnson "Identified"
Alien "Computer Affair"

Anthony Chinn:
Alien "The Square Triangle"
Lt. Chin "Sub-Smash"

Hugo Panczak:
Captured Alien "Computer Affair"
SHADO Mobile Navigator "The Square Triangle"

Nigel Gregory:
Security Man "The Psychobombs"
Ben Culley "The Sound of Silence"

Any more ?
I don't remember now.

If you want add:
Ed Bishop:
Comm. Straker all the episodes
Clone Alien "Reflections in the Water"

the same for Michael Billington and Ayshea Brough.

In response to the question if there were any other actors in UFO who
appeared more than once but playing different character besides Philip Madoc.
I thing a few other did perhaps more depending on how you want to view the
other roles they played.
Andrea Allan first appears as a Nurse in Question of Priorities. The she
is shown as a SHADO operative in The Sound of Silence and The Man Who Came
Back.
Peter Blythe who played the second Officer to Philip Macdoc Captain in
Destruction, is also in The Man Who Came Back as a Tracking Station Officer.
And let us not forget Anthony Chinn who was the Alien in The Square
Triangle but was one of our guys as Lt. Chin in Sub-Smash.
Nigel Gregory plays a character named Culley in The Sound of Silence and
in The Psychobombs he is back as a Security Man.
Tom Olivier is in Confetti Check A-O.K. as a Doctor and turns in in The
Sound of Silence as a Technician.
Oh, and Shane Rimmer played the co-pilot of Seagull X-Ray in Identified
but was cast as a C.I.A. agent in Confetti Check A-O.K.
Then we have Gordon Sterne who was the helmsman in Refections in the
Water but was cast as The German Delegate in Confetti Check A-O.K.
David Weston was diffinantly playing different character when he played
Gary North in Survival and Mitchell in The Dalotek Affair.
That all I can think of .

Really? He was the one who was shot, correct? OAUN I can't listen to
his voice without thinkng "Scott Tracy"

Yep. He was also the guy in the amphibous gear in "Doppelganger"
(aka Journey to the far side of the sun)

I was always wondering who played that alien. I remember him and
Foster in the mobile in TST. They both had identical haircuts and
were very rigid in their seats. Made them look a whole lot like
"Captain Scarlet" puppets.

There is Alan Tucker:
IAC ship (space junk clearance) navigator "Conflict"
SHADO Lunar Module pilot "The Dalotek Affair"

Gito Santana played two different aliens. The one in survival (who was
shot at the end) and later the helmetless alien on earth in "Sound of
Silence".

I think there are a few others.

(of course neither character was named, so they could conceivably be
the same person, i.e. he worked for IAC and then later joined SHADO
prior to his ill-fated flight)

Yes, I remember seeing 'Lou' drilling into a capsule - in
Identified I think. Definitely Lou Carpenter.
