Why would UFO attacks have stopped after '97? (Mark IX Hawk txt)

Thomas Gryn

Hi all,

I'm a new member, found this group via ufoseries.com.
Glad to be here!

Here's a question. In the Photos section, under the
"Mark IX Hawk" folder, the text for the Hawk indicates
that it was developed because the Interceptor's range
wouldn't be adequate for dealing with an all-out UFO
attack. It also indicates that the UFO attacks
"mysteriously stopped" in 1997Send, shortly after the
Hawks would have replaced the Interceptors.

Now, I realize the Mark IX isn't "canon" as far as the
UFO storyline goes, it fits more in the "1999"
universe & in any case its development would have
happened years after the time period shown in UFO.
However, I was wondering what other's thoughts are on
possible reasons why the UFO attack might suddenly
stop - considering all the problems the aliens had
caused throughout the "UFO" series run, it seems odd
that such a determined opponent would just call off
the assault and disappear.

Two speculations that immediately come to mind:

1. The aliens are from a dying race, and they finally
ran out of time. SHADO never succeeded in identifying
the aliens' home system, as far as I know, so the
termination of their species would have happened 'off
stage'; as far as Earth is concerned, the aliens just
vanish without explanation.

2. Possibly the aliens *did* tangle with early
versions of the Hawk, and recognized that it was an
improvement over the Interceptor & continuing the
attacks would be a losing proposition. This seems like
a less likely explanation if the Hawk text is to be
taken, since it states the Hawks were slotted for
dismantling after two years without any UFO contacts.
That implies that the Hawks never got a chance to
prove that they were worthwhile against their
designated opponent, the UFO threat.

What do you think? Other ideas?

cheers,
Tom Gryn

I always thought it was still continuing since there was no final episode of UFO. I would vote for number one though. Unless you are a jobber in a wrestling match losing all the time is no fun. bsl

Actually I did come up with a reason why the Aliens would stop their attacks
and it is the basis for my idea of a UFO story(Project Lazarus) that would
make a better plot for a new updated UFO TV series or film.

The aliens stopped the attacks and simply waited. Why? They have studied us
for years and they know the thinking of mankind. So if they waited with no
more attacks what do you think would happen? The world governments funding
SHADO would first cut its budget. This is standard government thinking. If you
spend all your budget you get a bigger budget the next year. But if you don't
spend it you need less. Now if the aliens are not attacking anymore SHADO is
not spending it budget on more missles, fuel, other weapons, etc. so they
get a smaller budget. This goes on till the world governments see no more use
for SHADO and it is closed down. When this happens they will return.

But what if the need for replacement organs was too great to wait.
