DeepDiscountDVD.com hasn't put UFO up for pre-order yet.
A nice little email asking when it will be available might help do the trick. Their email is: [hidden email] Anthony ------------------------- |
I don't know if anyone has worked out which of the UFO box sets are
best value for money. A quick trawl through the various sites reveals [as far as I can see] the French is, in fact set stands head and shoulders above the rest, if value for money is your main consideration. All 26 episodes including post for £59/E95 !!!!!!!! The Carlton DVD box sets weighs in about £45 per shot and as far as I can see the A&E sets are about the same. Bearing in mind that most DVD are multi-lingual it migh be a option. Particuarly when all the DVD's appear to be using the same digital transfer. The extras apart from some minor differences are all-but the same. I have the Carlton Box 1 and to be honest, apart from a quick flick through I have not bothered with the extras. They have very much a secondary appeal to me :-) I rather the time and effort was spent on the picture quality, which is the case with UFO DVDS's. Marty.......... |

Actually, the A&E sets will probably sell for about US$45 each from Deep Discount DVD, which would make them cost about the same as the French set. Also, the French set will have "forced subtitles", which means you cannot watch it in English without also having French subtitles on it. Also, there are other differences, like the Carlton DVD's being PAL region 0, while the French set will most likely be PAL region 2, and the American set NTSC region 1. Also a slight speed difference between the American and the French/UK sets, due the difference in PAL/NTSC from a 35mm source. As for the extras, it appears that the extras will be different on all 3 sets, which makes things a bit problematic for the UFO fan who would like to have all the extras... Marc (who'll probably buy all 3...) |
Another point to consider is [for obvious reasons]it is definately
worth going for a pre order. For instance, I notice Blackstar [who were offering one of the better pre order prices] have put the price of the Carlton set one, up to just shy of £50. I'm not sure on the forced subtitled issue, some European DVD's go for it, others don't - I guess it's a case of waiting. Although from the few [recent] Euro DVD's I have sourced there seems to be a trend getting away from that. Although I'm sure the commentarys and and written materail will be in French! I did say [in my original posting] it was from a quick trawl from on-line sources, and as I'm based in the UK I'm not really tuned into the true discount sources. Even allowing for that, the French set is still [if only marginally] best value for money. I was just curious had anyone done a price comparison :-) Marty............ |

Has anyone tried www.dvdstreet.co.uk. Their postage rates are £1 per order (ie you can order as much as you like, hundreds of pounds if your heart desires, and you still only get charged £1!), and currently there is a ten percent discount in honour of the Queen (?!), so the price per box set without postage is £39.59! >From: "hopkirk_marty" <[hidden email]> >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: [hidden email] >Subject: [SHADO] Re: BOX SET VALUE >Date: Mon, 03 Jun 2002 17:17:03 -0000 > >Another point to consider is [for obvious reasons]it is definately >worth going for a pre order. Right, here is the precise low down on the Box sets prices for the full 26 episodes. I have tried to find the cheapest on-line sources. But I cannot guarantee there is not a cheaper outlet out there, but if there is,I suspect we are only talking pennies. UK: £96 [if both sets bought were bought on pre order this would drop to £88 but it appears set one cannot be bought at the dicounted price] USA: £68 France:£55 The above include post from the country of origin to the UK. I'm sure the prices may rise once the pre order offers dissapear. I would have thought with the advent of the DVD's eBay would have been awash with Japanese laser discs, but I hav'nt seen a copy, then again I have not been looking to hard. Marty............. |
