Yahoo Website Services... (grumble, grumble)

Hi all,

Some of you will recall when Yahoo Website services took over
Simplenet last fall, and all of the UFO websites on Simplenet had to
change names, plus some had to cut back on disk storage space to keep
costs low. My website changed names from "ufo.simplenet.com" to
"ufoseries.com", and instead of drastically scaling back on the size
of my website, I decided to go with the more expensive of the 2 new
plans offered, which was $40/month -- much higher than the $10/month
I had been paying for the past several years.

Today, while browsing the Yahoo Website services page, I noticed that
they had changed their plans, except that I don't remember this ever
being announced. The more expensive plan is now only $30/month, and
differs from the $40/month plan in that it has no "media boost"
feature (whatever THAT is!). So, in an effort to keep costs as low
as possible, I've now removed the "media boost" option and am now
only paying $30/month -- however, I'm a bit annoyed that I didn't
notice before that I could have been paying less... I wonder how long
that lower rate was offered?

Also, for those of you who cut back on disk space storage, I see that
they now offer increased disk space at $5/month for every additional
50 MB. I don't know if they offered that before, but that certainly
seems useful...

Wow, do you really use 250MB???!!

For some reason, I am able to get by with only 100MB for TVCentury21.com,
($15) but then again, I have to make an effort to keep the image quantity
down. I checked my usage tonight and it was 120MB. It must have been that
way for a while. Not a peep from them. I guess they only get shirty about
it when you *really* abuse the allocation. I managed to prune things down
to 85MB, because I had several "junk" sites on there as well as several
duplicate images. I hate to admit it, but I think it has been $30 for at
least a couple of months. I think it might be soon time for TV21 to move up
another 50MB, as I have a whole slew of images coming soon. Uh-oh off topic
alert...

Slightly back on topic, I will shortly be completing my mammoth Century 21
convention report which features several photos of Ed Bishop, Gab Drake and
Peter Gordeno, not to mention some of the directors such as Ken Turner.

To really get things back onto UFO, I will tell you that I had just seen
"Mindbender" on video about a week before the con, and when I met Ken
Turner I found out he directed it, so it was fresh in my memory. Naturally
I asked him about the shots where they showed the set of Strakers office. I
asked him if the people behind the camera were actors or some of the
original production staff. Sadly, they were all actors, although he said
"some production people might have slipped into the background". He really
liked that episode too.

I was using around 300 MB back in the Simplenet days, but pruned it
back to 220 MB by scaling several things back -- mostly the Barry
Gray music page, which wasn't really "UFO" related anyway. But in
the months since, it has crept back to 241 MB, so I can see myself
needing to increase my allowance to 300 MB.

Also, my website uses a lot of bandwidth, so I really need that 30
GB/month allowance that the $30 package offers.
