You'll never guess who I bumped into ..

jamesgibbon

.. in Tescos (a well-known British supermarket chain) an hour
ago ..

Ed Bishop! Couldn't resist going up to him to say hello after
recognising him, and what a thoroughly nice chap he is. He
looked very well, I'm glad to say.

Dear Jim,

Oh yeah... and I suppose Elvis was working at the
checkout!

If James met Ed, Ed should check to make sure he still has his wristwatch :-)

I don't know what Ed was shopping for, sorry. He was dressed
very smartly actually, in dark grey pinstripe trousers, possibly
part of a suit, an overcoat, and a rather distinctive hat with
a fairly wide brim. Not too au fait with hats, but - a Homburg,
perhaps?

Hmmm .. I don't think so actually. The one he was wearing
yesterday was a bit bigger, a bit less casual maybe. I think
the brim was a bit wider.

Dear all,

I hate to suggest such a thing, but... wide-brimmed
hats in December in England - do you think, perchance,
our beloved Ed might have succumbed to mad cow
disease?

It wasn't *that*' wide. Looked very smart. Not a cowboy
hat or anything ..

Ok a call for action, time to move people!

Ok lets see, we have had multiple Star Trek movies, TV
shows etc. A Lost in Space Movie, an American Doctor
Who movie, Gilligans Island movies, Brandy Bunch
reunions and movies and on and on and on....

Is there any doubt in anyones mind here that UFO
topped all these shows in special effects, thoughtful
scripts and motivating characters?

The X-Files in many ways seems like the poor mans UFO.
I have recently showed episodes of UFO to American
friends who never saw the show, I chose Survival and
they had no idea it was a show from 1969, they were
stunned.

My point is this, most UFO and Space 1999 fans are
mature adults and I think intelligent human beings
with lives that cant accomodate and never could
endless letters to networks producers etc. Well I
think the time is prime now for some of us to lower
ourselves into this effort, without it any future of
UFO is doomed. I know there was talk about UFO-2 and
a wealthy fellow financing this effort. However it
seems to have fallen by the wayside.

I think media today is looking for something old and
something new, but something different to take the
entertainment industry by storm. Star Trek is waning,
Babylon 5 is gone, there isnt much else out there. A
concerted effort by many would grab some attention,
even a couple hundred could turn a whisper into a
scream.

So I hope from this acorn a great tree will grow, whos
in?

Certainly. Though a new series would almost certainly mean a totally
different cast, just as with the 'Star Trek' offshoot series (with
maybe cameo appearances by members of the original cast, as in 'Star
Trek: The Next Generation'). An idea that surfaces at the back of my
mind sometimes, maybe because I enjoy listening to radio and talking
books, is... what about some 'U.F.O.' stories, on audio tape or CD,
read by original cast members ? Ed Bishop has read many talking
books, indeed his talents have been in greatest demand over the years
for 'voice acting' on radio, talking books, (and, yes, puppet
voices :^ ), and Mike Billington sounds very much today as he did in
the series, to name but two... and the quality of some of the fan
fiction in the SHADO library is, in my opinion, quite high enough to
justify having it read as a collection of 'U.F.O.' stories by the
cast.

Might be useful as a 'launch pad' for a T.V. or film project... but
would be worthwhile (and enjoyable to listen to) in itself, IMO...

Regards,

Andy

I think that would be his fave hat and Jane would throw it out at her peril.
It has a small hole in one side.

And stuff in cans..or would that no longer be required because he now has a
woman who does?
