Covent Garden, in 1970 as depicted in The Long Sleep, and as it was about one year ago. In 1970 it was London's fruit and vegetable market, now it's full of trendy shops, cafes, restaurants and mostly talentless street performers. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/jgibbon/images/covthennow.jpg I actually had these flashback scenes from TLS in mind when I took the photos - so I'm delighted to have the DVD so I can compare them properly. Looks like I got the perspective and position about right in this one. James |

I had exactly the same idea and wrote a post about that (then my first post to this group) a few weeks ago. I am specially curious to see how the Harlington-Straker building looks these days. It would be great to have in the future a small electronic photo album of these comparisons. I did a similar thing years ago with Abbey Road, and it was a lot of fun to get the picture (I had to dodge several cars, and at the end I couldn't get the same angle because the shot was taken several feet above ground level). David, Thanks very much! It's funny that you mention Abbey Road though, because I'm a big Beatles fan (of course, Paul plays Get Back at the party in Ordeal, so we're bang on-topic here) - and I did exactly the same thing myself about a year ago. Do you reckon the album cover shot was taken at ground level? That hadn't occurred to me. It's a fun place to see. The local motorists must get grossly irritated by the 24 hr supply of American and Japanese tourists endlessly photographing each other on the zebra crossing though :) I've never seen the Harlington-Straker building, but it would be interesting to see some present-day photos. Anyway, I'm planning to put together some now/then comparisons from the TLS shots taken at the end of Long Acre, at Covent Garden tube station quite soon. I will have to go and take new photos though, I don't have any shots from quite the right perspective. Cheers James |

James, I find this a very good idea to compare the old locations in UFO with the new looking ones, especially the HS-Studios! I would do it for myself but I live a little bit abroad (in Austria to be more precieseley :-) Christian |

Except for the eight UFO episodes available on video, I haven't seen the other episodes in more than 25 years. Thus I couldn't put together right now a list of all the comparison pictures I think it would be most cool to see (hopefully this will change soon when I get my DVDs). Anyhow, if it was up to me, my wish list for now would be: 1. The Harlington-Straker building 2. The Harlington-Straker building! (and sign, in the unlikely case there is still one, I'm sure with other stuff) 3. Henderson's building (where the IAC was). 4. Paul Foster's appartment building Cheers, David Levine --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? But, I still visit often and nose around the West End every couple of weeks or so. Hoping to move back there later this year. The Harlington-Straker building is a fair way out of London I'm afraid. Don't know where Paul's apartment building is, or the IAC .. Cheers James |

Speaking of the locations of buildings from the series got me thinking isn't
there a photographic database of photos of England taken from the air. I was seen a nice photo of Gabrielle's Abbey home taken from this I think(don't asks where or I'll have to kill you if I tell you, then kill myself for having told you. SHADO takes security so serious<g>) Anyway if you could find this maybe you could search out locations and building from the series on this database. James K. Too late .. it was shown on a documentary about her brother a year or two ago. They interviewed her parents who mentioned how they get the odd curious UFO fan passing through .. |

Oh, that must be the BBC one I've heard about. Actually it more than
just a few fans of her late brother who turned up. But at least the were always mostly nice and polite. James K. P.S.: Love the photos of Straker with the weapons from Timelash and the nice head and shoulders close up of Anouska Hempel now Lady Weinberg. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
