HI ALL,
I remember Space:1999 did a revamp between seasons. They brought in the producer of Star Trek's final season in an attempt to loosen up the characters and create a more human element to the show. I guess the final element of a good show (not forgetting special effects) is strong characterization. These people have to be interesting, and we have to love them or hate them, or wonder about what makes them tick. I wonder if I'm coming off as a know-it-all, but I've been thinking about a new UFO series for years, and I just found this list. Stephen-- Oh, what about a love affair between a female Shado operative and an alien? And do we take the fight to their planet? Didn't a Shado probe make it there and back (at sub-light speed), but the probe's camera lense malfunctioned? |
Hello Stephen, > Stephen-- Oh, what about a love affair between a female Shado > operative and an alien? It's not currently legal in the UK to have relationships with other species, I'm afraid. > And do we take the fight to their planet? > Didn't a Shado probe make it there and back (at sub-light speed), but > the probe's camera lense malfunctioned? > Made it there and transmitted the pictures back, but I think it went at > SOL 1 in the wake of a UFO. The episode in question is 'Close Up'. The malfunction affected the information relating to magnification used for each photo. Don't try to make too much sense of it, it's a bit of a nonsensical ep (imho of course) James |

Nonsense. Isn't friendship a relationship? Aren't many people friends with their dogs, cats, horses...? Now if you were to say one can't have sex with another species, that may be somewhere in the law. All right, a question of terminology, but if we're talking about the law, terminology must be precise.... BTW, isn't there a law in the US that states one can't have contact with an alien? Anyway, to get back to the UK (at SOL 1 :-) : depending on the terminology it could be legal to have whatever contact with an alien. IF it states one can't do it (whatever this 'it' is :-) with another 'species'. A case can be made that mankind and the aliens are the same species. Quite a few sci-fi programmes say we were seeded from another planet, if this cannot be proven, it cannot be disproved either. Now if a human were to 'do it' with an alien, and this resulted in a child being born, it would definitely prove we're the same species. Hence, they could forget the criminal prosecution. Anyway, what isn't allowed in real life can easily happen in fiction. I've matched Straker up with an alien and they ended up having a child. (Don't ask to read that story, some have, I'm sure, since it was on my site for a while, but I've since re-written it and there are now no more references to SHADO or anything too Shadoesque in the story any more) BTW, over the years I've encountered many people on the Net who claim to have husbands who are from the Pleiades. Isn't anyone prosecuting them? Legally you may have to use a term other than alien. I am a resident alien
(according to my green card - and my full name does not fit) - although my first wife might agree with the making relations illegal. I wonder if you marry an extraterrestrial alien if they would become a resident alien. I'm sure someone in Vegas would perform the ceremony. With out going way to far of topic the legal issues sure could get interesting (or not). The problem would be to get the birth certificate or whatever papers one needs to get a marriage ceremony performed. Or isn't that necessary in Vegas? BTW - can someone in the UK answer this? - do people still get married in Gretna Green? Sounds like a better place for an alien to get married.... Would an alien be required to remove his helmet? If yes, the poor guy would choke! Pam Which story is this? Is it in the SHADO Library? Or when will it be online? Who is in charge of the UFO 2 project?, so that I don't have to clutter everybody's mailboxes with a lot of CGI technical stuff about Poser etc. |
