Hi everyone,
If I angered or offended anyone with my UFO comments I would like to appologize as it was certainly not my intent. I am a Science- Fiction fan and UFO is one of my all time favorite series. I love the characters and the entire concept behind the show. The concept for UFO is as ingenius in my view as that for Battlestar Galactica; they are stories that can be told over and over and expanded on. First and foremost, UFO is entertainment. But like ALL good Science- Fiction is has a root in science, and roots in fantasy. It wouldn't work without it. I am certainly not "trying to drag UFO through the mud", but to speculate on what could have been done better (or worse). The sad part is that there was so few good Science-Fiction in the late 1960's. I'm just nineteen, and perhaps the older members here are familiar with shows I am not from that ear. UFO was one of the best, as was Invaders (which I also love). That straight pinky was just too cool!! There were some others, but the one most people associate with this time is Star Trek. The characters were great, but the special effects *shakes head*, UFO is much better in that respect. I guess my favorite Science-Fiction film from that period is 2001: A Space Odyessy. UFO didn't have the budget that MGM gave 2001 to work with. Speaking of clumsy computers, Kubrik got it wrong as well with HAL9000. The world of UFO is actually much closer to realty than the near utopian world of 2001; and the totally utopian world of Star Trek. Claire, I'm not the Tasha you're thinking of as I'm not married. sorry. Hugs, Tasha :-) |

I don't know how some one who claims to be a fan can do nothing but
tear the show apart. |

I'm not personally in the least offended, indeed I myself have occasionally attracted criticism for over-enthusiastic nitpicking. But to address your comment about what could have been done better, 'more realistic' isn't necessarily 'better'. If a situation such as UFO is based on ever did arise, I've no doubt that a secret base wouldn't be established under a film studio. As you say, (if we decided to fight them at all - and the casualties from UFO incidents as shown in UFO appears to be considerably lower than those from road accidents) then existing military infrastructure would be used. Aircraft carriers and army bases are more secure than film studios, and military vehicles coming and going from them attract no raised eyebrows. But that wouldn't make for a great TV programme, would it? |

I love UFO, it is one of my all time favorite Sci-Fi series. I don't really know what you mean by "...fan can do nothing but > tear the show apart." because I did nothing of the sort. Perhaps I have my own vision of how UFO should have been. I would have loved it to concentrate more on the characters personal lives than it did. I guess that is why I love the episode Confetti Check, A- OKAY. The character's seem like all such straight arrows, completely dedicated to the task. I would have loved to have had a scene where Col. Foster is cooking in the kitchen and comes up with a solution for something that was eluding him. Perhaps Commander Straker shaving one morning in his bathroom grumbling because he worked a 16 hour day and just got to sleep and has to get up again. How about Gaye chatting with Nina over dinner on the Moonbase that the vending machine is out of hose, or which one of the pilots is the cutest. I would have loved to have seen these little human touches which go on in everyday life. I'm sorry Stuart if I offended you, but I do take offense at your comment about me being a fan. However, your vision of UFO doesn't necessarly have to match mine. Hugs, Tasha :-) |

Hi James, That is exactly why I love that aspect of UFO. The idea to put this ultrasecret HQ under a public place like a film studio is nothing less brilliant! I love the cat & mouse games Straker and the others have to play to get to work. I love the sequence where Commander Straker comes to work. He gets out of his car, walks to the door. "Good Morning Sir".. "good morning"... "Good Morning Sir"... "good morning" .... and finally arrives in Mrs. Elands office and she says.... "Good Morning" :-) The built in blind is what I love about UFO. Everything is hidden, and nothing is really what it seems to be. Tasha :-) |
