hello,
My name is Joyce. Just joined your list recently, and just recently started watching UFO. Brilliant and fun show for sure! After watching just the first three episodes of UFO, I have decided that I am going to attempt to make the moon base uniform (skirt version) for DragonCon this year. I am sure you all know what I am referring to .... So, I need to find the knit material (not the shiny silver collar and belt part, I think I have that covered) to make my UFO costume, and the local fabric store does not have anything even remotely like it. I bought some white material that had a raised stripe though it that I thought I could dye, and they spray with glitter to make it shiny, but after a look of disdain from my husband (who is a serious UFO fan) I have dropped that idea. Any suggestions?? Or does anyone have about 2 yards of material like the knit that is under the shiny silver, like what is pictured here http://www.perlgurl.net/reference/ufo/Ellis+in+moonbase+uniform.jpg that I can buy off them??? I found one source on ebay, closing on Friday, but if I don't get that fabric, this whole idea is a wash! I want to start on the costume this weekend.... I could start all the other aspects and probably get them done this weekend too, but without that shiny silver knit material, I am going to be pretty naked! Help! Has anyone here made this costume before or know anyone who has?? 5 weeks until dragon, I hope I can pull this off! Joyce ~ www.perlgurl.net p.s. Firefly is GREAT series. I highly recommend it. And I was just at DreamCon, and saw Jewel Staite. Lovely sweet and rather quiet girl, though much smaller than I thought she would be....especially since some of my friend tell me I would make a good Kaylee and I am no petite flower! |
Joyce;

Hi:
Joyce,I'm having the same problem as you...I want to use that costume in the CSFO 2K5. I just arrived from the store where I bought a similar fabric for the front part (the vinyl part) but I couldn't find the shiny knit fabric. I'm planning to try to find it in white and try to dye it.If any member knows where to find it I would like the information,too.I'm a Cosplayer and I want to Cosplay of UFO so that people can learn about the series when they ask me who I am. Just a thought and long shot but you might try asking Sylvia Anderson at her
website. If anyone would know what to use it would be her since she designed the originals. James K. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

I found some shiny fabric similar to the Moonbase costumes (without the
ribbing) at a Jo Ann's fabrics/crafts store last year. It's a Halloween seasonal material designed to look like chainmail. The fabric has a dark and light side, the light side is close to the Moonbase uniform fabric. It has metallic strands woven in with it as well.
