Sincere apologies.
I'll shut up in future.
I hadn't realised that mentioning UFO fanfiction was so dreadful.

Yeah, better we go back to having no traffic here for weeks at a time (rolls eyes).  Amazing what some folks choose to take issue with.  Life's too short.

I'm just a lurker, only occasionally posting, buy why are some folks takinmg issue hgere with others.  Looking down the posts nothing seems untoward; nowt wrong with personal details, "homegrown stories" if some folks want.  This is the kind of thing that gets posters a bad name.

Hi :)

Speaking purely personally...

Let's face it, everyone on this list is interested in UFO for different reasons...

Okay, I admit it, I have to admit to being a UFO Series Geek, and a UFO TV series purist (i.e. Frankly, I have no interest in the new UFO movie/s at all... though I'll probably see it if it ever makes it)

Most posts on this list are individuals observations about the series, newsabout the people and technology behind the series, and or speculation about UFO and its story lines...

Fan fiction - in my book - comes under that category... have you actually READ some of the fan fiction out there, and mentioned in associated posts? Some of them are way better story lines than many of the episodes!

Given that this list is called www.UFOSeries.com I would think that it encompasses ALL aspects of the UFO TV Series, which you 'could' argue doesn't include the new UFO Movie/s...

So, in the end you get the new posts and you take your pick, read'em or bin'em... that's the wonderful thing about choice, and we are lucky to be ableto do so.

...I'll shut up now.

Best to all UFO Series fans out there ;)

Griff

PS. Sorry Marc

Well, there's nothing off-topic about UFO fan fiction. Although
maybe we've had too many "chat room" type posts lately?

I actually moderate some folks on this list, and delete multiple
off-topic posts every day so the rest of you don't have to see
them. So it could be worse... :-)

I would disagree with that strongly, and note that I've only seen complaints from one poster.

And the posts he's complaining about are, in fact, very much on-topic. Just not on the exact aspect of UFO he's interested in.

Thank you, Jonathan, for sticking up for us poor UFO fanfic writers. Complaints like those of that poster are the reason most of the fanfic writers from before have left this egroup. Seems all you guys want is to talk aboutboring models and tech stuff. *grin* God forbid that anyone bring up something truly interesting -- like a new UFO story to read! (Gee, I guess everyone DOES love UFO for different reasons!)

Your kindness is deeply appreciated.

Ahh, but being the list moderator, I typically get these sorts
of complaints sent to me privately, so you wouldn't see them. :-)

Paul is certainly not the only one who complains about
the one-liner, chat-room type posts. This sort of complaint
comes up from time-to-time, and I usually deal with it by
warning people to follow the group rules, or be moderated
(and in extreme cases people get kicked off the list
altogether).

But I appreciate the problem of over-moderating the group and
then having it turn into ghost-town. I've seen that happen
on other groups.

And if one is really only interested in *big* UFO news items,
they might be better served by checking my ufoseries.com
"what's new" page.

Well, *hopefully* everyone can co-exist. :-)

As I said before, I view UFO fan fiction as on-topic, so please do continue
to announce new stories, discuss ideas, etc.

I'm actually glad to see some new UFO fan activity going on -- we had a really
active period in the late 1990's when the Internet was new to many people,
but then things died down after that.

And yes, we did have a rash of people leave this group and form their own
groups (Ed Bishop Fans, etc.), but those groups are pretty dead these days --
unless there is some secret UFO group that they don't want me to know about!

Just my personal point of view, but I am always amazed at the trivial things people find to complain about in life.

And I certainly don't envy your position of being put between a rock and a hard place as moderator.  Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Back on topic:  Does anyone know the exact shade of silver used on theInterceptor landing skids?

Yes, I'm sure it has been discussed before (what hasn't?), but I'm asking anyway.  : )

Marc,
Your job as moderator is certainly not an easy one! But I am very grateful for all that you do to keep this forum a place where people want to go to hear about UFO. It was your egroup that was instrumental in getting me revved up about UFO again after so many years of silence. And that excitement led to so many fun stories to write and read! I've made a lot of friends hereand even found help with technical questions (since it's not my forte!)
Keep up the excellent work! (And I'll try to be more wordy in my replies sothey don't seem like 'chat'!) *grin*

I don't think there's anything wrong with posting news about fan fiction,
but since someone raised the subject, I must admit I do regard some of
the inane chat as noise I could do without. Instant messaging clients
are a better medium for that sort of thing.

Yes, the UFO writers "bible" says that, but in the series SID is clearly
in low-earth orbit.

Re: SID

It makes some sense to have SID in an opposing (?) Lunar orbit around Earth, but what kind or orbit would it be. Not geostationary, and it would haveto orbit the Earth once every 28 days in LEO,
Is it called geosynchronous?
I would have thought it would be more practical to have SID orbiting in a polar orbit ( the base of a cone) with the moon 'behind' it at the point of the cone as it were so that SID would be able to 'look out' past the Earthwhich would be eclipsing Moonbase's sensors. Does that make sense? It's hard to explain on paper!
I think that practically, there must have been more than one SID although there's no evidence in the episodes.

Re: SID

Hi,

In "Reflections in the Water" there is "Space Observation Platform Watchdog" that first detects the massing of UFO's in area NML12.

The fact that it is called Space Observation Platform "Watchdog" implies that there are a large number of such detection platforms.

Maybe SID just deals with more 'local' finer resolution tracking... augmented by the Utronics Detection System mentioned in "identified"...

Just a thought...
