Umm, I enjoyed Godzilla. (Of course, that may have had something to do with
the cutie playing the lead. BTW, he's even cuter in person!) But as a
mother whose son bored her to tears for over a decade with those pathetic
Japanese rubber Godzilla movies, Surely Emmerich's version was a step in the
right direction? Also, Stargate is permanently on my view-once-a-month
list. So, where's the problem with Emmerich?

Denise

On purely technical points, Emmerich's take on the Godzilla film
could be considered a step in the right direction . . . but on
direction, plot and overall execution he dropped the ball. As a
director, Emmerich knows how to set up a film. He's a
decent "beginning game" director. But, as shown in Godzilla,
Independence Day and The Patriot, he demonstrates no method for
carrying a plot to a dramatic finish.

I'm a little confused by your reference to "dramatic finish." As a fellow
movie lover who abhors anticlimatic endings, I appreciate your concern. But
Independence Day, Stargate, and Godzilla all ended quite dramatically to me.
What were you looking for? (I'm asking seriously, not sarcastically.)
BTW, how are the UFO Comics coming?
Yours,
Denise

Umm, no.

I have no problem seeing "Godzilla 1998" as a remake
of "Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" because 1) this
"Godzilla" was just a giant iguana, 2) had no
radioactive firebreath, 4)laid eggs (!) and 4) was
all-too easily killed by a few missiles.

Also, the dialogue was absolutely horrible. I can't
imagine the actors saying such lines with a straight
face.

D&E have taken previous ideas and re-worked them well
(Stargate:Time Tunnel; ID4:Earth vs Flying Saucers;
Godzilla:Beast from 20K Fathoms) but they always
appeal to a low demoninator.

Thanks for asking (I really should start posting more updates here).
I'm finishing up work on adapting Diane Anunziata's story, "Witness
To The Harvest" for issue #0 (had to do some online research to
determine the best route to send SHADO Mobiles from Scotland south
towards London).

There's been a few setbacks concerning release dates, but these
mainly affect Supercar. UFO is still scheduled for a 2003 release,
with Diane's story being followed by the "Cataclysm" mini-series
written by our own Very Modest Anthony Taylor (don't blush,
Anthony). I should point out that Anthony's been considering some
Very Interesting plot ideas for future issues, with additional
stories also from Diane and even possible (gasp) from Myself.
Besides Anthony and Diane the talent consists of Christopher Jones on
art and Joe Rubenstein on inking. As soon as some artwork starts
coming in I'll try to run it here.

And please, let me, or Online Alpha know when the comics (Any GA related
comics) are coming out. I heard that there are delays in Supercar because
of illness but I never really see any updates as to when we can buy the book.

Also, will the comics go through the regular comics distribution
process? Should I be asking my comics guy to pre-order these for me in
case he doesn't order enough for his store? Or will you be selling online
through mail order like POWYS media?

I'm interested in the Supercar book, a little more interested in the
Fireball book and REALLY interested in the UFO book! I want to make sure
to get these when they come out.

btw, I haven't been to your company's website in awhile, I may have lost
the URL but I do check the two Supercar groups from time to time, Black
Rock and the Supercar comic one and I really have to dig around to find
some info on when it will be published.

Thanks!

Re: UFO Comics, (was UFO directors)

Hi Phil,

I try to post as much current news and artwork as possible (along
with other ephemera) at [hidden email].

Right now only the Supercar book has been solicited through both
Preview and Westfield Comics so they'll be going through the regular
distribution process. You can talk to your comics guy about them.
Online orders should also be possible (at least I know it's possible
through the online site for Westfield).

Supercar #0 has been delayed and will be re-scheduled. Supercar #1
is now looking to be the first title out of the gate, followed by
Fireball XL5 and UFO next year. Kez is currently in the process of
working on a revised schedule, and I'll try and make sure this
website (as well as the XL5 group) get the word.

Feel free to ask any questions you might have.

Michael

I don't know about merchandise in connection with the comic, but
there *might* be a few Nice Little Surprises in conjunction with it.
That's still in the works.

(My idea for a "Be Gay Ellis For A Day" contest . . . complete with
purple wig . . . was, tragically, shot down.)

I only said that if you were going to hold such a contest, you should let
other people enter and not just hog the wig yourself.

Listen, Anthony . . . we both tried on that metallic mini-skirt, and we
*both* know who looks best in it! Sorry, but I got the better legs of the
two of us.

(This isn't going out to the rest of the group, is it?)

Ditto. Are these new comics or reprints of the Countdown UFO stories?

P.S. What is the current state of stories of a new UFO movie?
How certain is it that Ed Straker will be Ed Bishop?

I found a UFO fan-fiction story that contains both Ed Bishop and Ed
Straker as separate people. For example, Double-Double (Deborah
Rorabaugh, 1997)

Ahh, a question I can answer.

Misc!MAYHEM's UFO series will consist of all new stories!

Please email me directly about them when they come out, as I am
subscribed to SHADO in "no email, I will read the archives" mode.

I found a web page http://www.miscmayhemprods.com/ that seems to be
them.

Will the comics be hand-drawn or CGI? Black-and-white or color?

OK, let's see if I can answer these in order.
http://www.miscmayhemprods.com/ *is* a good website for information
about the Misc!MAYHEM line of comics. Another (fairly decent) site
is:

[hidden email]

which I moderate and where I supply regular updates, as well as
commentary.

Comics will be hand-drawn and in color. Here is the artistic line-up.

Writing: Anthony Taylor . . . Diane Anunziata

Pencilling: Christopher Jones

Inking Joe Rubenstein

Editing: me

Worrying: Kez Wilson

Hope this helps.
