too many messages.

gbai012
Hi, I'm a new subscriber and I have a problem. Not only do I get e mail from
this group, but also the same mail over and over (once over 160). Is there
some way of averting this as it is turning me off this chat group. I just don't
have time to open an avalance of mail.I would like to add that Computer Affair
is my favorite UFO episode and hello from sunny New Zealand. Greg B.

160?!!! I haven't been getting *any* repeat messages... hmmm...

One option is to simply set your YahooGroups options to "no mail",
and then just read the messages on the SHADO website at:

One thing to check is that your email program is configured to delete
messages from your email server after they are downloaded to your PC.
Usually when I see the kind of situation you're describing, it is due
to messages failing to be deleted from the server for some reason;
hence every time the user downloads, he gets copies of the same
messages over again. The problem can be caused either by your email
program not being configured correctly, or by the server not
handling the delete command properly; in the latter case, you'll have
to deal with your ISP to get it fixed.

This is a common problem with IMAP email accounts, where you can
download message headers, then mark which messages you wish to
actually retrieve. Users sometimes try to delete a message, but end
up only deleting the local copy of the header; the message itself
remains on the server, which will try to deliver it again. Since your
headers indicate you're probably using an IMAP setup, I suspect you
have this kind of situation. How to fix it will depend on your email
program; consult the documentation or online help.
