Marc,
I don't mind where we start, as long as we start up again. I really enjoy
hearing what everyone thinks of the episodes. And I've missed it these past
months. Since many fans hadn't seen the show in years and years until they
got their DVDs, perhaps it would be wise to start over, so that they can
participate with a fresh view on things.
Yours,
Denise

I think starting from the beginning would be the best idea. I still haven't
got my set of DVD yet but soon. Till then I have 15 episodes on tape mostly
the early ones with the exceptions of Exposed, Conflict, and A Question of
Priorities. So anytime everyone can agree on.

Opening Credits

Anthony D
Hi all,

Quick question -- Paul Foster is shown in the opening credits before he is a
character in the series. Was UFO filmed before it was syndicated?

Filming on UFO took place from May 1969 to September 1970. UFO was first
broadcast in September 1970. So, yes, they had plenty of time to modify
the
opening sequence so it featured Foster.

Starshipmodeler Anderson Poll

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
Starshipmodeler are currently running a poll on the best Anderson
series. UFO is doing well already. Why don't folks on this board nip
across and give UFO a vote, to ensure a high placing. The URL is
below. Incidently Starshipmodeler does have a good hardware reference
page for UFO, so they are worth visting in any case. The higher UFO
finishes up the poll, the more articles they may be inclined to do on
UFO, who knows

New UFO Models

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
This is probably old news, if so I apologise if it is. I surfed into
Hobby Link Japans site today [probably - or one of the best- source's
for Anderson related models and kits.

I noticed HLJ are advertising a set of [what they call trading
figures] from UFO. As far as I can make out there are seven pieces in
the set and manufcatured by a company called Konami. The models being:

A UFO; Lunar Carrier & Lunar Module; Sky 1; Interceptor; Skydiver;
Mobile; Gay Ellis Figure.

HLJ a selling a set of 10 pieces for £20.00 [plus post]

There is a heavy caveat, in that because they are trading pieces and
they come sealed there is no guarantee they can provide a full set,
this is presumably why they are selling them in sets of 10 to increase
the chances of a purchaser recieving a set ??

This is what HLJ say:

"Important note about the variation of this product: These items are
marked as "trading kits" ala "trading cards." The Packages are sealed
and the items are randomly packed. Because of this, it is impossible
for HobbyLink Japan to handle request which specific figures and we
cannot promise which figure you will receive in a box. Please place
your order for this item only if you are willing to receive any one of
the different types."

I was able to see some of the Thunderbirds set recently and while they are
small, the detail is impressive.

This is purely my opinion, but some of JFGreen's stuff is wildly overpriced.
But there are some people out there who are willing to pay the prices, I
guess.

I don't have the link, but somewhere on his site Bower did a photo article
on making a replice of Skydiver for a client that was HUGE. There is a shot
of the miniature standing next to a woman and it looks about five feet long!

I'm hardly surprised. John Green has been overpricing his models since day
one. I remember his lists from way back before there was an Internet to
advertise on.

Re: New UFO Models

lunadude2001 <russell_smith@ntlworld.com>
It was'nt my intention to start a vedor bashing thread. I was trying
to make the pointbthere is often only a limited window to get UFO
models before collectors inflation sets in. As it happens I'm aware of
a source were re-issued Imai Moonbase can be bought for a mere £80,
still not a bad mark up for a kit selling for $40 less than 12 months
ago ;-)

The main thrust of my original post was to give a heads up, on what
looks like some very neat UFO models indeed. Brian, seems to confirm
that these models are likely to quite nice items, and at twenty quid
for a set of ten, they sound quite affordable on the face.

The only dissapointing aspect of this, will be to aquire a full set,
more than one box of 10 will undoubtedly have to be purchased? unless
you are very lucky of course. I will be curious to see if one of the
models will be harder to get than the others? No doubt enticing
multiple purchase to aquire the missing model???

Well, if a bunch of us get duplicates, what about trading them?

Thanks.

One more quickie -- just watched Computer Affair -- I didn't get the comment
by Bradley at the end when he says "1984..." while looking at the bottle of
wine/champagne. What is he talking about?

That sounds a neat idea, so everyone who these models appeal to gets
one set and then we can see who is short of what? With a view to
setting up a trading syndicate?? Any takers'?

I still have a suspicion that one of the models maybe made in lower
numbers than than the others. I'm not a trading card collector but I
think this is a common ploy to get multiple purchases. I guess we will
have to wait until they are released.

Also you HAVE to buy a Case of 10 at Hobby Link.
One thing about buying a Case is that you will get the Display
that the Japanese would display them in on a store counter.

In Japan you would be able to buy just (1) for about $2.60

Re: Opening Credits

Anthony D
That's exactly what threw me! When he says "1984 ... in 20 years...", I
thought to myself perhaps the episode was written in 1964 and the writer got
his continuity all scrambled up. Then I remembered (and a previous post from
Marc confirmed) that the series was vintage 1970, so that didn't make sense
either.

It's a very odd piece of dialogue.

He is referring to the current year, 1984, which possibly is also
what year the wine is. This is usually considered to be a blooper,
since most of the series seems to take place in 1980-1981, not 1984.
When the series was in pre-production, the original plan was that the
series would take place in the mid 1980's, so this script was
probably written with that in mind.

Have to chalk it up to one of those continuality bloopers. I guess they
forgot the show was set in the 1980 or they hadn't decided that yet or...
anyway somebody goof letting that get by.

Thanks for the info! I think the lack of a response to your earlier post was
maybe due to the lack of a photo.

I saw the Thunderbirds at a shop in the Chicago suburbs and the guy there
was selling the toys (models?) separately for $4.95.
