Okay, I've been busy and its late but here it is my belated review of the
Dalotek affair. Forgive me if I go over old territory as I received most of the commentary on my old email program, switched to cable and decided to take a break from Outlook Express and go back to Eudora. Anyway, I sort of liked this story, it's a little low key but has a lot of interesting aspects to it. First, there's more than one base on the moon and the people there are part of a corporation, not a government installation! Leaves a lot of room for future stories and expectations of the world of UFO. The aliens try to something cool and sneaky. Of course they are foiled! But still it was better than throwing UFO's at Earth every episode. The conflict between the civilians and the SHADO personnel is interesting. Straker is a little harsh throughout and even though he figures out the whole thing what's the point except to give him screen time? (Not that theres anything wrong with that!) Dr. Stranges is....out of place. I prefer to keep the real world UFOlogists out of my science fiction! : -) Yes I am a skeptic in that regard. The problems I had was how clean and good looking everyone was over on the Dalotek base. Here's a bunch of people working on the moon, running around in the moondust and nothing gets on them. Jane removes her helmet and she's GORGEOUS! Not one hair out of place. No sweat, no mess, nothing. Paul Foster flys the moonmobile over to Dalotek early in the episode, they look at it flying up to the door and three seconds later he's knocking on the airlock! That Paul is sure a fast guy when it comes to knocking on doors! Maybe he learned that from selling girl scout cookies! The discovery and destruction of the cool looking alien blocking device happens to quickly for it to make and real dramatic tension in the story. From the minute it blows up to the resolution of the conflict all happens to easily. Even the decompression of the Dalotek base is anti-climatic. Still, I'd rate it higher than a C+ from all the stuff that happens, even if the pacing is off. Oh I forgot: I HATE landing those ships on top of the moonbase! Hate it Hate it Hate it! It would be like landing a Lear Jet on the roof of my house! i don't know why they did it that way but it looks really dangerous. anyway here is the song, I've been on an ELO kick lately, buying their new box set retrospective, Flashback and also after finding a techno remix of Xanadu I decided....Well here it is. -------------------------------------------- Dalotek (Sung to the Tune of Xanadu) The place, that Straker said not to go But they had be there you know, They called it Dalotek And now, some static comes up our screens And blows up our red space machine What about Dalotek???? There's three UFoe's flying across the sky My oh my They run away when Foster glares up there They'll need clean underwear Dalotek (Piano: Dum dah dee dum dum) Daaaaaloteko____ek (Check out her hair) It's Dalotek (Bum ba dum, boom boom boom boom, boom boom boom boom) Dalotek (Piano: Dum dah dee dum dum) Daaaaaloteko____ek (Who does her hair?) It's Dalotek Dalotek you're lucky that you got to be up here Dalotek!!!! And now, Paul Foster begins his move She'll lose those guys she got stuck with, over at Dalotek And Jane, her lipstick is just so right But there's no Mary Kay for 3 million miles But's she there at Dalotek Paul Foster goes and shoots it just in time, he really shines! and then gets Jane next to the SHADO Slides My oh My! Dalotek (Piano: Dum dah dee dum dum) Daaaaaloteko____ek (She's got nice hair) It's Dalotek (Coda) She's got to forget, everything in Dalotek In Daloooooootek She's got to remove, her memories of Of Dallllllllllll Daloteeeeeeekk eeekkk ekkkk!!!!!! |

Hi,
Just thought I'd better introduce myself, having joined SHADO yesterday:) I'm thirty two, live in the Midlands, UK and am a professional portrait artist. The present re-runs of UFO on the Satellite Sci-fi channel have rekindled my long lost love for the series and has made Sunday tea time a real highlight of the week as far as I'm concerned! I always did love watching the programme, but as I haven't seen any episodes for many, many years, I'd honestly forgotten (or was I just too young to pick up?) just how well the close knit working relationship & camaraderie within SHADO came across - certainly evident in the four episodes I've caught so far. One thing the mists of time haven't dulled for me is Col. Paul Foster - and even now, I'm still gutted when he's not in an episode... :( I'm really looking forward to reading all the comments & insights on the programme from all the experts here. Please, could anyone tell me - are there any UFO related cons due in the near future? Cheers for now, Di |

Hey Di!
Glad to have you aboard - check out Marc Martin's site to find Mike Billington's web site! You can e-mail him and he'll e-mail you right back! He's a real sweetheart! Also a Capricorn! Ed Bishop is a Gemini, BTW! Hope you enjoy the egroup, Marc's site, and oh yes, check out the SHADO Library - Deborah Rorabaugh (sp?) has put together a fine collection of fan fiction for UFO! You might even feel the spirit move and write some of your own! Pam |

Still, I'm very enthusiastic to learn if nothing else!! >It's a general Sci-Fi event, but Ed. He actually looked more youthful (and a helluva lot cuter) with the sideburns and the high hairline. BTW Anyone know how much of Mike's hair is his own these days? In the picture on his current info page, it looks like his own, given the amount of hair he had back in 1970. FWIW I'll take bald over a rug any day of the week. (works for Peter Gordeno :-) see his convention shots, his shaved head is *cool*). I never had the nerve to ask him in my correspondence. Although he's pretty good natured when it comes to answering questions via email. > > Anyway, hope your stay is long, fruitful and happy:-) Likewise, welcome Diane. |

As for cons the Italians seem to grab the stars of UFO the most but there always seems to be some con or other to look forward to. You should be well placed in the Midlands for attending conventions. Have you been to www.michaelbillington.com yet and asked "him" a question yet? Like, does he really like Fettucine? Yup - I already found Mike Billington's site - I came across it after I caught my first (re-run) episode a few weeks back (the one where Paul first joins SHADO. Like the true plonker I am, I can't even remember the name of the episode) I typed in the name on Yahoo search and was amazed when his site came straight up. I don't think I'll ever pluck up the courage to email him though. Besides, the last Capricorn I knew kept landing all his dirty laundry on me to wash & iron - so maybe it's best to leave sleeping "legends" lie....!! :) ...I certainly will also check out the Library too!
