In the Fanderson documentary on "UFO", Gerry Anderson an actor who was
taking forever to shoot a scene where all he had to do was to answer a telephone... among other things he was asking why the phone was red... Gerry was polite enought not to mention tjhe actor's name... but who was he (what episode + scene) ? |

This is one of those questions that I've asked myself, but still don't know the answer. Is there a red telephone anywhere in UFO? Or did Gerry just make that up? I've found that on some occasions, Gerry's stories don't agree with the facts or with other people's versions of stories, so we also need to be careful to realize that his statement about the phone may not be true at all, or it may not have been UFO that he was talking about. Hi All,
I always assumed it must have been Adrienne Corri "The Square Triangle", there's a reddish telephone in that episode... Oh yes, you're right. I know there is an episode where one of the guest actors
uses a red phone. Another possibility is Tracy Read in "The Dalotek Affair". I'm travelling on business at the moment, so I can't check... I've been checking with Lisa Williams' UFO frame capture library... here is a red phone in The Dalotek Affair: http://www.framecaplib.com/ufolib/html/episodes/images/dalotek/dalot113.htm This guy looks like he might be a troublemaker... :-) Marc |
I found another one:

The incident has been reports in various ways over the years, and was even on occasion spoken of in reference to Gerry's time making "The Protectors". I believe this may have been the case (I'm sure I've got a recorded interview somewhere where he mentions the incident and "The Protectors" in the same breath, just like he did on numerous other occasions referring to UFO or trouble directing live actors in general). ... but in the Fanderson documentary, when Gerry finished the story
they cut to a close-up of a red phone being hung up... and from the general look of the clip, it does look like it could be from UFO. * * Howeverm it is a man's hand hanging it up, and he doesn't seem to be wearing a space-suit... --- In [hidden email], "Kelly Patrick Lannan" <klannan@b...> wrote: > > I've found that on some occasions, Gerry's stories don't agree with the > > facts or > > with other people's versions of stories, so we also need to be careful to > > realize that his statement about the phone may not be true at all, or it > > may not > > have been UFO that he was talking about. > > ...which is I think the case. There's no red phone used in UFO like the one shown in the clip. It occurred to me it might be from another of Gerry Anderson's series, maybe of the same actor/ actress that caused the grief referred to. I'd put money on one being the industrial spy in "Court Martial", I don't have a clue of her name offhand. She is seen replacing a telephone handset (although not red) and in his scene with her, Ed Bishop really looks as if he would like to murder her, a bit OTT, IMO! Sarah |

It is a woman's hand hanging it up, though... Marc |
If Gerry wanted us to know who it was, he would name the actor. On my part,
I think it was just a matter of a metaphore, illustrating the kind of questions the actors ask... and they can be even worse than that, believe me... I agree with you that the hand is a woman's hand. Branko wrote: >If Gerry wanted us to know who it was, he would name the actor. Listening again to Gerry's comments, as you say, it's in there purely to illustrate what he's saying. Incidentally, are you thinking of any UFO related instances? Perhaps it's a 'live hand shot' from one of the puppet series. If there's a Fanderson member who worked on producing the documentary, or who knows someone that did, could you put us out of our misery??.! Watching the documentary reminded me about the slapping scene in "Kill Straker". Alan Perry (the director) said he hadn't realised a slap couldn't be "mimed", that it had to be for real. I have to say, this can't be true!! In "CCA-OK", Straker slaps Mary and that's definately mimed. Furthermore, Alan actually says he was shocked at the severity of it and that Mike B. did well to carry on acting the rest of the scene and I agree with him, especially because the emotion expressed is genuine. Poor Mike, with a split lip and real tears! |

No, I am reffering to work with the actors in general. Unfortunately I had no experience whatsoever in working on UFO and the actors of UFO. I only met Ed Bishop once and talked to him a bit and that talk made me sure that he WOULDN'T ask such questions, for sure. _________________________________________________________________ Express yourself instantly with MSN Messenger!
