So far, nobody seems to know! We might just have to
wait until the new Gerry Anderson episode guide book
comes out before we find out!

I personally don't think that Chris Bentley got the
question wrong -- he's not one to make such mistakes.
Also, I've seen a lot of actors from Space:1999
suggested here, yet as far as I know none of these
actors made any guest appearances on UFO.

And I don't think Shane Rimmer counts as being a
Space:1999 regular character...

UFO theme heard in Japanese "Big-O"

Hi all,

I've gotten a report that the Japanese animation series "Big-O"
has a theme song called "Respect", which is essentially a reworking
of the UFO theme song.

The theme song is available in Japan as a CD single:

So has anyone here heard this song?

It must be from the second series which aired recently or is airing right
now in Japan. I've got the first series on DVD and there wasn't any music
which sounded UFO-esque. Really neat series by the way, if you're into
anime.

Yes. The song resembles Barry Gray's UFO too much !!

This song is for the 2nd season main theme of BIG-O.
The main theme song for the 1st season resembles "FLASH GORDON" of
Queen.

Wow, I never thought about that but the first season theme does sound like
the Queen song. Just substitute "Big-O!" for "Flash!"

I see that there is a soundtrack CD for the second series of "Big-O".
I'm curious if there are other songs from this series which sound
like music from UFO, or is it just the main theme "Respect"?

The new issue of Diamond Comic Previews has a picture of the cover
artwork for the UFO comic issue #0. You can see this on my "What's

Note that this is probably not the final cover artwork, but it should
give you an idea of what it's going to look like.

Thanks for that pic.

Interesting cover -- but not sure it's going to do much on the newstands.
Downplay the old TV series on the cover IMO.

Remember -- the 25 year old comic buyer has little clue about UFO the series
(unless he caught it on SF Channel in the early 90s).

OK one thought -- why not call the comic "SHADO" (sorta evokes a superhero,
too) and in the bottom portion of the cover the words "Based on Gerry
Anderson's UFO".

I realize this probably isn't possible -- the deal with Carlton most likely
was that "Gerry Anderson's UFO" be prominent, but thought I'd throw the idea
out there anyway. :)

Any chance we can hear this too? Interesting, off-topicwise, as
Queen (pre-Flash) always really disparaged synthesisers.
Actually, their synth inexperience tends to show on their Flash
soundtrack.

But I digress ...

I was prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt until those
Hammond organ riffs kicked in. And yes, later bass lines
confirmed it.

But it's pretty damned good.

Can anyone in England get a copy of the whole thing?

The artwork looks a bit, well ... Japanese in style.

I think that, purely from a personal viewpoint, I;'d been hoping for a
more 'Countdown' style of artwork.

Of course, I'll still buy it ... :)
