Hi all!
Considering a possible UFO movie practically, I assume what we would regard as precedents would be such British ex-TV series as THE SAINT and THE AVENGERS. I suppose that we, the enthusiastic UFO fans, would like to watch a movie just looks like the 27th episode of the original series, but facing the facts of Hollywood, that might not come true... The feature film of THE SAINT was something entirely different from the original, I thought. THE AVENGERS one was much better. They used the same theme music and, to my delight, Patrick MaCnee from the original show appearred again, though he was invisible... Kaoru |
I've heard alot of disapproval of the movies The Avengers, The Saint and
also the remake of Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), so those comments do not auger well for a remake of UFO if someone making it isn't tuned into what the fans want.........Pam |

Hi Pam,
Yes, you are right. Hollywood would never make a remake movie of UFO what we really would like to see, I'm afraid However, anything is better than nothing. As far as a possible UFO movie would be entitiled 'UFO', the motif should be a classified war between the aliens and SHADO, at least, I think. And when the war breaks out? In the original series, in the 1980s, ten years after that time. Now in the 21st century, in the 2010s or in the 2020s? We already have International Space Station, and by the 2020s, there will be an International Luner Base known in public. So SHADO have to protect both of them from the Ufos on the sly. Otherwise, will they depict the lost history in the 1980s? Kaoru |

The series was miles above it in comparison! I also saw the Saint movie, and although it differed greatly from Roger Moore's series (which I watched religiously), I loved it as a movie. I haven't seen the other movie mentioned, but the person who brought these movies up has a point. A UFO movie won't be like the original. It just won't. Whether it stands as a good movie in its own right or is just a pathetic copy is in the lap of the gods, but anyone who expects to see the same old same-old isn't facing reality. BTW, thanks for the synopses of your UFO stories. I'll upload them onto the site this week. Yours, Denise _________________________________________________________________ MSN 8 helps eliminate e-mail viruses. Get 2 months FREE*. http://join.msn.com/?page=features/virus
Straker, somehow it's always about you.

Hi Denise and all: as I've said before, I didn't go to see re-makes of old
series (i.e. Lost in Space, M:I, The Saint, The Avengers - R&H was a made for TV movie I think) because I just KNEW the approaches to these shows were off too wildly from the orginals - the producers weren't interested in catering to the fans who loved the original programs at all - which I think is flushing over half your potential audience down the crapper. That's what scares me about seeing UFO re-done. Even the first TOS movie sucked and they had an Academy Award winning director at the helm - one who'd even done SF before (The Day The Earth Stood Still I think). Pam |

There would be a cool 'conflict' between them aboard the Skydiver. No one but Ed Bishop can play the established role of Straker, I believe. Then I would like to have a drastic change in the way of thinking about casting the same role. I hope Ed Bishop would play another important roll such as, for example, the president of the United States who assists SHADO operations. Kaoru |
Hackman would make a great Gen Henderson but I rather doubt he'd do a
science-fiction project (altho he did dress up in drag for The Birdcage, right?). Pam |

Gene Hackman and Denzel Washington having a confrontation on as sub
as Henderson and Straker? Kaoru, haven't you seen Crimson Tide, its been done already. We want to see fine actors in the UFO movie and both Hackman and Washington are first class all the way. But we don't want it to be made up of these actors replaying scenes they have done in other movies and just changing their names to those of character from UFO Imagine, the courtroom scene in Courtmartial with Foster played by Jack Nicholson and Dr. Jackson played by Tom Cruise. Jackson: I want the true Col. Foster! Foster: The true? You can't handle the truth! Very compelling once you get over Cruise playing Jackson(could be a Oscar nomintation if he could pull it off) but far from original matter with the scene being stolen from A Few Good Men. Just because we like someone in other film or scenes from that films is no reason to have them in the UFO film or try to use scenes from that film in the UFO movie. James K. Are you suggesting Hackman for the role of Lt. Ellis or one of the other MoonBase agents?

Pam But Hackman *did* an SF movie in 1968/69 which was called MAROONED (alongside Gregory Peck) in which he was one of the three astronauts who get into trouble when only two of them could survive because of the fact that there is not enough air for three people to return. A rather quiet but nevertheless good movie (IMO). Christian |

Actually Marooned was James Francisus, David Janssen, and Richard
Crenna as well as Gene Hackman and Gregory Peck. And Hackman has done Sci-Fi. He did the Superman films. If you don't count those as Sci-Fi he did do a movie called Shadow On The Land about the United States being taken over by and a resistance force being organized to fight it. James K. Hackman also portrayed an alien in an episode of "The Invaders", as well as
doing a fabulous bit as a blind hermit in "Young Frankenstein". > Was the other astronaut James Caan? > I vaguely remember that I think. No. James Caan was in COUNTDOWN in 1968 co-starring Robert Duvall, which was about the race who will send the first man on the moon - Americans or Russians. (The latter wins - in this case :-) Christian |

Hi all - I stand corrected about Stuporman and the other SF movies Hackman
did - thanks for reminding me! So that means he might not be adversed to doing more SF.....Pam |

I don't see why The Invaders shouldn't make it to DVD shortly. UFO and Trek
and a plethora of other classic SF shows certainly have made successes that way. I have two video tapes of The Invaders I bought at a now defunct Canadian store called Eaton's several years ago. I bought the pilot eps and one extra but there were copies of many other eps there at the time. I was just short on money and couldn't buy them all.....Pam |
