Hi all,
This week I obtained an unfilmed UFO script, and will be adding a complete transcript of it soon to my UFO website for everyone to read. Meanwhile, you can read some preliminary details and a short excerpt from it on my "what's new" page at: http://ufoseries.com/new.html Marc |

Bravo, Marc. Especially the bit from War of the Worlds.

It sounds legit, Marc, and not a bad storyline. BUT today IS April Fools. Are you conning us? Slightly sceptical, Denise
Straker, somehow it's always about you.

Hi all,
Could this be the 'lost' script mentioned at the UFO convention in 1988 by one of the guest speakers ? Lost at some point between the studio change I think. Is Col. Lake or Alec Freeman mentioned to verify series '1' or '2' script writing. Just to add some credability to Marc's e-mail. It would be to cruel to play an April fool like this... I wasn't at the 1988 UFO convention, so perhaps you could fill us in with the details? I do remember reading an interview with UFO script editor Tony Barwick (I think it was in "SiG" magazine), where Gerry thought Tony had the script, and Tony thought Gerry had the script, so it turned out that the script was lost! However, it was never clear to me if they were talking about UFO, or whether or not the script was ever found. But this particular script is a series 1 script, as it features Captain Carlin in it. Marc, I can't remember where I read it recently, but there is a story about a lost script in which the writer lost it while driving from his home to the studio. There was a remark that it would quite a find for collector; I took it as maybe it flew out of or off the top of the car and maybe someone could've picked it up from the road?! Marc, can you disclose the script's provenance? THANKS! Marc Marc - You could... stake your reputation on the line... and swear on the name of Gerry Anderson that this is NOT an April Fools Joke. Of course if you give us your word and it later turns out to be an April Fools Joke - ALL of your credibility will be gone and it is likely that the real Marc has been aducted by Aliens and then returned under thier influence. I don't think an April Fools joke is worth your reputation...heh...heh...heh? :) We all want to believe.... If it is a JOKE....Don't stake your reputation! You already got us.... :) Gordon. Back in 1992, there was a Space:1999 convention held in Los Angeles. One of the items up for auction was this UFO script. This was obtained someone named John Ellis, who knew the author (Leo Eaton) and knew about the script's existence. Leo sent John copy of the script, and last week John sent a copy of this script to me. What puzzles me is, why haven't we heard about this before, if it was auctioned off way back in 1992? Marc |

Is this like swearing on a stack of bibles? :-) But okay, I guess it is time to 'fess up... 1) This *is* an April Fools prank. 2) My goal however was a bit unusual, in that I wanted to fool the skeptics, not the "gullible". 3) Which brings us to the good news -- the script is real, and everything I have said is real (except for the part where I pretended not to know that it was April Fools Day). Even the part about my receiving it this week is true! For the really skeptical, here are scans of a few script pages: http://ufoseries.com/33.jpg http://ufoseries.com/34.jpg http://ufoseries.com/35.jpg And for your reading enjoyment, here is a transcription of the entire script: http://ufoseries.com/scripts/patriot.txt In this file, you'll see that I even consulted with the scriptwriter about getting the transcription correct and also his memory about why this script was never filmed. So, to all you skeptics out there -- April Fools! :-) Marc |
THANKS Marc - for the Fess up! It is real! That is AWESOME!!!
Thanks for the digging and the work for the BEST UFO Site on the NET!!! Gordon. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Hello all. I am a new member here and my name is John Ellis. I have been following the posts for the last week in anticipation of Marc posting this script, and I would like to add my two cents. Yes, this script is indeed the real McCoy, sent to me by my friend Leo Eaton in 1992 to auction off for charity at the SpaceCon in Los Angeles that year. A copy of it has languished in my garage ever since, until I mentioned it's existence to Marc a few months ago. Following incessant nagging, needling, bugging and otherwise death threats (just kidding here Marc, you actually only asked me twice, and very politely!) I dug it out and sent it to Marc, who was keen on posting it on April Fool's Day. I'm so glad of the reaction and result...I've been giggling about it all day ;) I have to say that I remember being perplexed (amazed?) back in 92 at the lack of any ripples at all in fandom following the sale of that script at the convention. I never heard from the buyers after that (though I gave them my address and phone number, as Leo offered to sign the script for them) and basically that was the end of the story. I remember the husband and wife who bought it seemed very interested in it, but suspect they read it and then put it away and never shared it with anyone. The attendees at this con were mostly Space:1999 fans, and not necessarily UFO fans, so perhaps the reaction is understandible. But there was someone from Fanderson there, whom I showed the script to, but I never heard from her again after that. Probably because I relocated and all of my contact info changed. It's all a mystery, but has had a fine outcome, and I hope the script is enjoyed and that Leo and his superb talents benefit from this in some way. And Marc, you are indeed a genius! This is a great thing. Bestest, John R. Ellis |

Heh, heh... thanks John! It wouldn't be there at all without you! And while I'm at it, I'd like to thank the manufacturer's of ABBYY FineReader optical character recognition software, for putting up a free 15-day demo of their amazing program (this worked so much better than the OmniPage software that I had used on previous scripts) :-) By the way, my "What's New" page has also been updated: http://ufoseries.com/new.html Plus it's on my "Scripts" page. Now I will rest. I'm beat! (you try transcribing a script in 3 days, and you would be too!) Marc |
Marc, I have ABBYY FineReader Pro 5.0, so after the 15 day trial and if you don't purchase, I can OCR convert whatever you forward to me and return as a Word doc or editable PDF. I guess not! :-) A lot of sites have April Fools Day stories, and Fanderson in particular have regularly had such stories. I've always thought it would be fun to have such a story, but never got around to doing one. However, when I heard about this "lost" UFO episode, it seemed so unbelievable that it could pass off as an April Fools story -- one that would even turn out to be true in the end. So my apologies for upsetting anyone... I was just having a little fun, and I figure that most of the website readers won't even come across the script for weeks/months anyway, so they won't go through the 24 hours of not knowing the truth...
