Is this even the same UFO movie that we've been following?

apparently they are hyping up the vandam angle first, appealing to a larger crowd. im sure that things will balance out as the film progresses. how sad for this to be the  first step though.

I don't think it's the same movie -- different writer & director.  However, titled
"UFO" *and* being filmed in the UK!

Looks like it's an entirely different premise too.

And the UFO-Movie website hasn't been updated. But this certainly doesn't
bode well for Gratzner project.

It's a old trick in film making that when someone else says they are going to
make a film about such and such that another company will steal er borrow the
idea and often even the title and occassional even the original story idea.

RE: What the....?

Well, this is the decade for 'flying saucer' films. How many so far in the
past couple years?

War of the Worlds, Skyline, V, Battle Los Angeles, the various rip-offs?

No surprise that more companies are jumping on that bandwagon.

Ahh, but we can now discuss if Jean-Claude Van Damme would make a good
Commander Straker... :-)

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.  Definately more Freeman than Straker.  If he was 20-30 years younger he would have pulled of Foster no worries. ;-P

That's what I was thinking - 20 years younger, he'd make a great Foster.
(or Desica if they wanted to use that character.)

Hi All,
I am convinced this is not the same movie. The official website has not changed or been updated and Matthew Gratzner is still linked as director. I think that this has been so long in development hell that another production has had plenty of time to get going, posibly using the bandwagon hype that has been running for so long to steal some (all) the thunder.

I read a rundown of the film plot and it has five friends who I think will be
younger people so say teens to twenty something and find they have not phone or
internet service and there is something causing this which turns out to be a
UFO.  So if the Muscles from Brussels is playing Straker he will be taking a
backseat to the younger actors.  New recuits perhaps?
James K.

Flying saucers have always been a popular movie theme dating back to the 50’s where the aliens were communists in disguise.

But there are trends - some years it's fill-in-the-blank natural disasters,
then it's not-so-natural disasters, or giant mutant monsters, or neighbors
from hell, or science run amok, or superheros.
