asked: >From the quiz: > >"First Impression I Give: Aloof, stand-offish, stern, humorless." > > >I wonder if Ed's talking about himself or Straker! Doug, That's himself. He really does appear that way in person. I was very surprised, especially since so many had said he was nice. But since he does not wear his age well, it didn't really seem to me like Straker's aloofness. In fact, I found nothing of Straker in him. But I've been told by a few other fans that they caught glimpses. I thought him too much an ass to hang around long enough to find out. Especially since the rest of the guests were very convivial. Onstage, however, he was quite jovial. Has to make you wonder if it's all an act, though. Or maybe he only feels comfortable onstage. Who knows? In my opinion, his summation of his first impressions is right on. Does that answer your question? Straker, somehow it's always about you.

>on stage. I didn't find him to be a jerk at all when I saw him at Century 21. He seemed like he was being nice & friendly with everyone. I think he must be moody or something, because sometimes we hear good things at one con, and then other times we had bad things at another con. Marc |

It's really too bad that our hero in real life isn't that nice. or doesn't
seem to be. I'm always disappointed if people I admire turn out to be turds (can I say that on this site?). I've heard tons of bad press about Shatner, who has been, of late, trying to correct his public persona and even doing movies based on spoofing himself. Altho I've never met Mike Billington in person, his e-mails show a sense of humour and he answers them post-haste, so I hope this means he's a nice fellow - anyone out there methim at a con and can confirm this impression? I just found a wonderfully provocative review of the first A$E box set (and
the series) on this site: http://www.thefacer.net/viewcomment2.asp?SID=&FBID=140 "If you can put aside the two-dimensional characters, loopy treatment of women, incessant second hand smoke and the occasional plot missteps, UFO is a grand sci-fi treat. It blows Star Trek away in many ways (but not all), and certainly presents an alternate view of the future from what were used to being spoon-fed these days. The DVD set features superb quality, although limited extra features. On my 100 inch, liquid-cooled, plasma linear-duplex video screen, I could see the individual strands in Lt. Ellis bra (not that I was looking.) Very impressive." Doug |

I think the previous poster was saying that perhaps
they were disappointed that Ed the man was not like Ed the character that they watched on TV. That is the problem in most convention situations; fans cannot seperate the actors from the characters they play on TV. They expect to really meet "Ed Straker" or "Captain Kirk" or whomever. It's just a TV show, people. ===== __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Platinum - Watch CBS' NCAA March Madness, live on your desktop! http://platinum.yahoo.com |

Hi All :)
I met Ed at a Fanderson convention, and I found him a very pleasant, affable person, and that was how he appeared to me even though I was the umpteenth person in a very long queue waiting to meet him. S'truth, I take my hat off to these actors; I think of myself as a fairly patient and hopefully not too unpleasant person, but how I would react or seem to the x hundredth person asking the same old questions, I would not dare to comment. Best to all :) Griff -----Original Message----- From: ultramannick [mailto:[hidden email]] Sent: Sunday, March 23, 2003 7:16 AM To: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [SHADO] Re: Ed Bishop First Person Quiz I think the previous poster was saying that perhaps they were disappointed that Ed the man was not like Ed the character that they watched on TV. S'truth! Which episode is he talking about? ...Griff, desperately shuffling

How they do carry on.
