Hey, guys!
Someone has to keep Louise company in the UFO writers corner, so I've written another story and put it up at my website. It is listed under the OtherUFO Stories heading and is called "Out of Time." Yes, it's a time travel story, but very different from the Shakespeare Saga. The tagline reads: When the aliens devise a way to make the commander disappear, they find that he's harder to get rid of than they thought. You can find the story at this URL: http://denisefelt.weebly.com/out-of-time.html I hope you'll enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it! Yours, Denise
Straker, somehow it's always about you.

This story writing is getting serious Denise! Perhaps we should offer to do a script for the new film!! Would look good wouldn't it !
Screenplay by the Felt/Oatridge Corporation! Or perhaps it would be better as 'United Oatridge Felt' (UFO!) Not that I want my name first or anything! Anyone out there got any ideas for a film plot? > written another story and put it up at my website. You writers are sure being productive these days! I haven't been very productive on my UFO website lately, although I figure if this new film goes ahead, I will *have* to pay more attention to it... although I will likely still just focus on the original series, as there appears to be plenty of other websites eager to cover the film. Marc |
I wouldn't worry Marc. However good the new film is ( if it is any good andif it actually gets made!) I don't think anything will ever supplant the original series. Look at Thunderbirds - although on second thoughts....don't!
I personally think that one of the great things about UFO is that there areso many unanswered questions regarding the series... as we have seen here on this site recently! Such as.... who on earth thought a lilac car with pale blue interior was appropriate for Paul Foster!! (only joking!) What I'd like to know (for a story in the pipeline) is how they resuppliedMoonbase with everything it needed. They couldn't have fitted much cargo in those little Lunar Shuttles - and if someone tells me they had huge spacecargo transporters as shown in episode....... the whole premise of my story goes up in smoke (and I'll cry!) LtCdr Oh yes,and I'm productive because i don't have much to do at work at the moment! --- In [hidden email], "Marc Martin" <marc@...> wrote: > > > Someone has to keep Louise company in the UFO writers corner, so I've > > written another story and put it up at my website. > > You writers are sure being productive these days! Certainly the series seems to imply that the Lunar Shuttles are the only craft to regularly visit Moonbase. But they must use something larger than that on occasion -- what do they use to bring up their "replacement Interceptors" ? Marc |
They could be built / repaired on site. Given an adequate energy source,
most materials needed could be mined on the moon itself. Possibly Moonbase is sitting on top of a very large underground mining / manufacturing complex that is never shown in the series. It would certainly be easier to launch something as large as SID from the moon's surface rather than Earth's surface, for example. And why did they need to use NASA to repair SID? It was in Low Earth Orbit and could have been reached by one of their shuttles (which were Single Stage to Orbit - or HOTOL?) Or could they not go EVA from a Lunar shuttle? Anyone know? Its interestingthat NASA seem to be going back to the Saturn 5 style design for the nextgeneration of space rockets! > > Certainly the series seems to imply that the Lunar Shuttles are the only > craft to regularly visit Moonbase. But they'd have had to get certain stuff up there first. Water for example. And set up the mining complex. But the mining complex is a point.I alwaysthought that Moonbase and indeed SHado HQ should have been many times larger than we were actually shown.Moonbase would have had to have some underground places, and HQ - the one time we saw a blueprint looked ridculously small!
It could be fun writing our own 'bible' for UFO - unless Marc has alreadydone that!! We could put together known facts for characters with evidencefrom episodes..until of course there is contradictory evidence! Quite a few different industries are involved in making a spacecraft. Even a company like Grumman, which made the real-life Lunar Module, didn't start from metal ore. Much more practical I think to ship parts from Earth periodically, and bolt them together on the Moon. I mean - the equipment to mine metal ore from the Moon would have to be shipped there in the first place, and would likely outweigh all of the Interceptors likely to be lost in combat for ten years. That's before you consider the metal refinery, the machining, the staff accomodation and so on. James |

Would it be possible to boost them into Earth orbit using something relatively small, then simply "fly" the Interceptor to the Moon?

Good point! I remember them going EVA in a Lunar Shuttle in at least one episode. (CLOSEUP?).

There is water already on the moon:

Well, at least no one has come up with a SHADO craft that stuffs up the premise of my story! Thank heavens! I didn't want to have to rewrite the wholething! I'll stick with SHADO using Lunar Shuttles! Thanks everyone!

The series notes/bible states that the large flat area in front of Moonbaseis for large craft to land on. I take that as being for resupply as it's right in front of those "hanger" doors to bring large items inside. You can see part of the underground complex. The gym where Michael Billington and Derren Nesbitt fight is right next to the bottom of the launch silos. You can see an Interceptor ready to launch through a window.
SID is supposed to be in the same orbit as the Moon but on the opposite side of the Earth. Hi
The Interceptors look pretty modular to me: - Missile - Front and rear skis - 'Tail' section - Engine - Pilot Section - Interceptor main body - looks like a few sections there as well Could work? I suppose looking at most of the Moonbase setup, it all looks modular.
